Hi,
I have had another lightning storm (with no direct hits though).
My Ultra II gave a comms failure at first.
I reset the system, but then got \"wrong text press *1 together\" on both keypads.
I pressed *1 and then got \"no text data download aborted\"
There is no voice and no response on the keypads - not even the usual beep when I press a key.

Resetting and complete disconnect from power produce same result.

Please help.

First lets establish if the Comfort is still working
What is the state of the red and green leds on Comfort after reset. The normal sequence should be
1 - both leds turn on
2 - Red led turns off
3 - Green Led goes off then on and stays on

Can the UCM comunicate with Comfort? Do a System Information. If there is communication, then the system has lost its voice due to the lightning strike. You can do a Vocabulary Upgrade using Comfigurator and the UCM

If there is no communication, the Comfort PCB may have been damaged by the lightning and would have to be repaired.

Hi,

Thanks for the quick response.

The lights flash correctly.

I can connect with the UCM/232 and get the system information.

I tried to do a Vocab Upgrade, but the Upgrading Vocab window stuck at 0% for a while and then I got \"Vocab upgrade encountered errors\" and \"The operation was cancelled\" messages.

I did also try to rewrite my configuration to Comfort and that seemed to work fine, but did not resolve any problems.

Can you upgrade the UCM and Comfort to the latest versions if you have not done so
Also before doing the Vocab upgrade power off Comfort and back on again

Is the UCM firmware 5.155?

Does it look like the one below

If so then it is a UCM which can be used to upgrade Comfort and other modules. However the UCM cannot upgrade its own firmware. You need a UCM to upgrade another UCM

Hi, I am not at the UCM at the moment, but I seem to remember that the RS232 port was mounted directly to the board - and not on a daughter board as in the picture?

The RS232 daughter board ws used in later versions, with part number UCM/232. Before that, with the UCM05, the Rs232 connector was on the UCM board. The firmware for UCM05, UCM/232, UCM/USB and UCM/Ethernet are the same. If your UCM firmware is 5.100 and above it will support upgrading of other modules and the UCM can also be upgraded by another UCM. You must have the programming cable. Thanks for the help.

Resetting the system, not pressing *1 on the keypads and connecting the rs485 cable directly to the main board allowed me to upgrade the vocab.

No firmware upgrades were necessary, although I do plan to do them now.

All seems fine now.

Hi,

I assume your comment \"If your UCM firmware is 5.100 and above it will support upgrading of other modules\" above is a mistake?

The manual says that 5.178 is required to do an upgrade (and that 5.100 is required for the UCM itself to be upgradeable).

Am I correct or can I do an upgrade with my UCM 5.156?
