First attempt to upgrade UCM over the bus Succeeds
#31
OK (I think)

What i am trying to establish is weather in future given all components are v6.0 or greater weather we will be able to provide a \'simple\' upgrade service remotely via (ported) comfigurator.

------------------------------------------------------

On a variation of the same subject.

When you talk about universal UCM ...

https://www.cytech.biz/ucmuniversal_inte...gory_id=74 makes no mention of the ethernet or usb plug in daughter boards

http://www.cbus-shop.com/product_info.php?cPath=139_153&products_id=1048 suggests that this is for use with daughter boards.

Without giving more examples is the ucmuniversal interface the same item as the UCM06 ?

If it is then \"UCM/Universal would also be upgradable by Comfort bus as it is an \"external\" UCM, ie it does not connect to the PC, but to other equipment\"

Which would answer my question

All modules v6.xxx and above will be able to upgrade by either bus or direct method
In future all modules will have their firmware upgraded to 6.xxx, except KP03, KP04, SCS, RIO but these will be replaced by newer models eg KP06

Universal UCM is not a UCM06, at least not in function and thus it can only be upgradeable over the bus

OK the first sentance answers all my questions - long term... superb...

However I am now confused over the difference between a Universal UCM and a UCM06 - as it looks as though other suppliers may be as well can you clarify.

Thanks

UCM06 is the baseboard and hence the common part of the UCM/232, UCM/Ethernet and UCM/USB

UCM/Universal is for interface to other 3rd party systems eg rfxcom/homeeasy, Rako and other products with RS232 or Ethernet, and not for programming Comfort
Hence the Universal is upgraded by Comfort Bus

OK

BUT the questions im after are related to the upgrading of UCM via the bus so -

1 - does the ethernet daughter board plug into the universal UCM ?

2 - If 1 above is yes then can i update the universal UCM from the comfort bus?

Universsal UCM does not come with any interface so you have to add RS232 male or female, or Ethernet depending on what you are connected to

You upgrade this over the bus, not direct connection

This thread is already getting too long, more than 2 pages so it will be closed

The Exception when trying to upgrade a UCM direct by PC (the very first post in this topic) has been fixed and will be in the next Comfigurator.

It happened because there was a combination of very old UCMs which did not report correctly during the UCM scanning.

In this case, the exception happens only every alternate attempt at scanning for upgrade, so the Bus Upgrading will still work if you repeat the operation - this is a workaround until the next version.
