Occupancy Sensor

Hi,

I want to control some lights using an occupancy sensor.

Questions :

1. Is there difference between an occupancy sensor and a PIR ?

2. If there is,  can a PIR be used ?

3. Can I connect the sensor to the input on the RIO to trigger responses (not alerts)

1) I think yes, generally speaking, occupancy sensors \"senses\" occupancy instead of translated movement. They are more \"sensible\".
 X10 wireless PIR\'s, for example, offers ON status when a movement is detected and OFF status when a movement is not detected for a selectable amount of time.
Security wireless PIR\'s, like \"Visionic\", for example, have a battery saver system and, for many reasons, are not suitable for occupany sensors.

2) Yes, i use x10 wireless PIR\'s (suitables as occupancy sensors), but you can use any type of wired PIR (in this case, you need to manually program a retarded response that switch off your light, because PIR\'s generally doesn\'t send OFF status) .

3) I don\'t know, sorry.

The answer to (3) is yes. RIO inputs do trigger ON and OFF Responses
