The picture of Scotts mockup was not visible when I replied. Nice work! The slotted speaker holes should be no problem, not sure how the metal buttons could be achieved though

At the simplest level these could just sit over the exsisting ones but as you say a new pad would be better.

Do we need a poll to see if a new plate is wanted or worthwhile? How do we move this forward?

One thing i need to highlight, the keypad normally just side by side with switches either conventional switches or system switches, i think maybe the shape can be same with switches, the length longer i think shouldn\'t be problem, and the keypad make it more simple and plain because all the information will show at LCD and all the operation is through voice prompt, i think we don\'t need to have so many icon. Or maybe can make it sliding, the keypad will hide it.

Thanks for the feedback received so far!

The prototype faceplate was manufactured really quickly as a discussion topic rather than making a working model to see how close we were to the mark. We wanted to know if the finish was acceptable to the market in general.

Things like size, shape and type of metal could come as options although brass is possible but way more expensive, additional company logo\'s may also be possible too at a premium of course  

One suggestion on the volume control was to mount it through the front plate. We will look at this in our next iteration (which will have a back box and a mic slot).

Although we are constrained by some aspects of the original design, we would welcome any comments on how we can make the design better. We can\'t promise to indulge everyone\'s desires but we will certainly try to incorporate the most requested features.

Glad to see that this has generated so much comment. I cannot add much more to  what has already been said.  From my view this has to happen.  The design I think needs to allow for a face plate of a range of materials.  Small range.

Stainless steel is ok for a limited range of houses.    Plain flat white is the most generic.  Next would be a frosted glass like the Clipsal switches.  Gloss finishes show finger marks too easily, so prefer mat finishes.

In summary.  Concept is great,  this needs to be done.  Have to solve the volume control issue.  Maybe it comes a slider ( ugly ), or rearange the wheel so that it is 90 Degrees to the plane of the face plate and protrudes through the plate just enough to catch the finger.  It must sit flush the with a plaster wall.  For solid the hole needs to be cut for a back box of some sort. 

Have it designed in such a way as to allow a plate of a different material ( customer/architect ) choice to be attached.

Yes it can be improved on, I\'m sure, but only with changes in PCB, buttons, etc. This I know ( I have worked for a manufacturer) will take time. For now this looks like a good solution, brushed stainless and white would be my choice for finshes (White = white used on MK Edge white plates)
