Appreciate that.... but that isn\'t anything we don\'t have to deal with already today.... what I\'m talking about is merely a way of making voice management vastly more flexible & user friendly... i.e. being able to do what we can already do today but in a much easier way.... TBH, my eyes started to glaze over reading through the voiceproc document.... the process we have to use today does seem immensely convoluted, with this table and that table, and word positions... Honestly, I don\'t think I\'m going to bother...

The \'problem\' such as it is, is that the default wordlist is necessarily very generically international... where I am, there are dozens of the default words that just don\'t get used here, and I don\'t need those stored in my system\'s flash memory...

If it were very much easier to deeply customise the wordlist, then I don\'t think I\'d ever need more than 240. As I\'ve mentioned, I think some of the key requirements for making it easier for end-users to deeply customise the Comfort voice are:

1) Move away from human recordings and embrace TTS as the default voice source. TTS has come on by leaps & bounds in the years since Comfort first came along. I believe TTS would be more than acceptable (given the obvious caveat of using a \"good\" TTS voice)

2) Roll voice management functionality into Comfigurator, making choosing a completely new word as easy as we currently select an existing word from the drop-down list.

I don\'t see that it *requires* any hardware upgrades... no need to increase the flash memory capacity, since I think it\'s currently enough for the necessary vocabulary. 240 words might be the maximum that can be stored on-board in flash, but of course many more can be stored on the PC (just as we can do with responses). - not available at the same time as the on-board of course, but easy to swap in & out in Comfigurator...


And I do believe that improving this area of the functionality would make Comfort hugely more customisable than it already is. - I know voice customisation *can* be done now, but I suspect the vast majority of end-users and even professional integrators/installers don\'t bother due to the inherent difficulties which we\'ve all already touched upon - such as the great difficulty in getting a matching voice to the existing human actors for starters.

Of course, if hardware upgrades to enhance voice functionality *were* on the table, then of course, a great deal more could be accomplished... perhaps a new UCM - \"UCM-Voice\" could be a possibility with a decent amount of on-board storage (user expandable?) and/or a TTS engine on a chip, such that a virtually unlimited vocabulary could be stored & played back in high-quality...

But I\'m really just suggesting things which *could* be done today, with current hardware, and only needs the requisite will to make the software engineering effort...

The Comfort voice functionality is one of its really great USP\'s, but IMO it\'s looking a little bit long in the tooth now... just about every other aspect of Comfort has improved continuously across the years, (remember trying to do a firmware upgrade on a mark 1??) but the voice system seems to have remained stagnant..

All just IMHO of course... :-)

Ah right. Yes. If you\'re doing that then the AUD01 module would give you the best quality recording.

If you\'ve got the ETH02 or ETH03 module then you\'ll need the newer revision of the AUD01 that has a pass through connector on it so you can fit in between the UCM and the Ethernet module. The old AUD01 just had pins on the bottom and no socket on the top so it had to be fitted as the top most module. This is not compatible with the ETH02 or ETH03.

Also be aware that there is a bug related to voice on the AUD01 which is fixed in ULT 7.066+ together with UCM 7.061+.

Thanks for the suggestions, pgordon. Thats something to consider

Howevevr, on the fly selection of TTS words is not practical because the voice flash must be erased before the new compressed set of words is written to it (which takes 20 minutes) and Comfigurator would not know if there is space in the flash for new words without erasing old words

A better VoiceProc software is probably the better solution, but for the time being we can help to add the words which you need and remove other unneccesary ones (for the UK)

Perhaps we can get a list from other members of words they would like to be included?

In a domestic/residential installation, I can conceive of little use for words such as secretaries, campus, chairman, conference, department, director(s), dispensary, elevator, escalator, factory, halon, laboratory, managers, marketing, personnel, turbine, warehouse, xray, to name but a few...

I struggle with getting \"HOT & \"COLD\" too so

\"Hot Water Level\" end up \"Cool Water Level\"

\"Cold Water Level\" end up \"Heater Water Level\"

So I disagree 240 is enough unless we can have some of the basic words we need around the house.
