UCM Versions/Types

I could do with someone explaining the differences between the various UCMs.

Firstly is the difference between the UCM05 & UCM06 versions purely a software one? (Can a UCM05 be upgraded to a UCM06?).

Regarding the different types of UCM are the main UCM boards interchangeable?

My plans for the future are to have 4 UCMs

- UCM/ETH02 for programming
- UCM/Universal + ETH02 for IP communication to \"other systems\"
- UCM/GSM3
- UCM/ZWAVE3

I have a pair of UCM05\'s (PCB\'s say UCM PC01-066A). I use one for serial communication for programming and the other is not currently used.

So I\'m trying to understand whether I can make use of both of my UCMs in some way to minimise what I need to buy.

One other thing I noticed is that only of my UCMs has an IC in U2 but the other doesn\'t. Is this significant?

Once I eventually get sorted with my 4 UCMs all at 6.xxx will they all be upgradeable by Comfigurator (i.e. without using any additional UCMs to perform the upgrades?).

UCM05 is very similar to UCM06 + 232/PB (or in other word a UCM/232).

You can convert one of your UCM05 to be a UCM/ETH02 by adding on the ETH02 plug-in module.
Don\'t forget to that the J2 shunt should be set to \"485\" position instead of the \"232\" position when the ETH02 plug-in board is present.

The U2 IC on the UCM05 contains the default configuration file.
This allows you, for example, to revert back to the default settings without the use of a computer. Just press the DOWNLOAD (SW3) button once to commence the writing of U2 IC content (default setting) to the Comfort panel assuming the UCM05 has been connected to the Comfort panel.
So in my opinion it is good to have but not significant as you can always do this from a Comfigurator.

Yes, once you have all the 4 UCMs in firmware version 6.xxx they can be upgraded by the Comfigurator software without the need of additional UCM to upgrade.

For example is my UCM05 not configurable as a UCM/Universal?

I assume that the functionality of the UCM/Eth02 & UCM/Universal with Eth02 are mutually exclusive then?

i.e. the UCM/Eth02 is only usable for configuration with Comfigurator and the UCM/Universal with Eth02 only usable for IP communication to \"other systems\"?

Yes, the two UCMs\' functionality is mutually exclusive.

With regard to the \"comfortprotocol.pdf\" document which type of UCM does this relate to (the UCM/232, UCM/USB and USB/Ethernet or just the UCM/Universal)?

\"comfortprotocol.pdf\" relates to UCM/232, UCM/USB, and UCM/Ethernet.

They are not limited to Comfigurator use but can also be used with ComfortClient (see: http://www.comfortforums.com/forum65/) or WizComfort (see: http://www.comfortforums.com/forum21/) software.

Other 3rd party system like Crestron can also interface with Comfort system by sending/receiving commands (based on comfortprotocol.pdf) through UCM/232.
