Comfort dead due to interrupted transfer PC -> Comfort
#1
Not my lucky day! I have two Comfort installations: one at home and one at the office, each with their independent UCM and connected wirelessly to the same network. In a bout of bad luck, my router packed while I was updating my home Comfort configuration file, meaning that the transfer PC -> Comfort was cut off half-way. Now my Comfort at home is dead!
When I turn it on, all my 4 keypads are powered but don\'t have communication with Comfort (they make a soft continuous beep-beep sound), my strobe keeps flashing, my ethernet UCM (firmware UCM 5.156) is not accessible (with RDY LED on & D102 LED blinking & D103 occasionally blinking), my main board (PC01-070A, with firmware ULT 5.164) has a steady green LED on but my second output board (PC01-050B) has alternating Red & Green LEDs on, if I press Reset nothing happens.
Using my UCM I copied the NVM of my working Comfort (office) to the NVM of the dead Comfort (home) with success, but when putting the home NVM back Comfort was still dead.
I then put the home NVM into the office Comfort board (with no problem, since it was a copy of the office NVM) and transfered the home settings from PC to office Comfort board, essentially loading the home NVM with the home settings via the office Comfort UCM/board (after transfer I verified that by entering the home code with no problem). But when putting the home NVM into the home Comfort board still the same problem remained, with all the symptoms described above.
It looks like Comfort is not starting, even after recovering the NVM from the interrupted transfer. A friend suggested me that there could be a problem with the boot loader?!
Any help please?! :-)

When you reset the Home Comfort, do both the leds come on, then go off and the Green led come back on again and remain on?
If it does that, it means that the Comfort is not dead.
The keypads are beeping because there is no communications
This could be a problem with Comfort, or it could be due to another device holding up the Rs485 Bus. Disconnect all the devices from KA/KB. Then connect a keypad and see if it can sign in. If so then there is nothing wrong with Comfort itself. Connect the keypads and other devices back one at a time, and see if any device is causing the bus to hang

\"When you reset the Home Comfort, do both the leds come on, then go off and the Green led come back on again and remain on?\" Yes, that is exactly what happens.
\"This could be a problem with Comfort, or it could be due to another device holding up the Rs485 Bus.\" I have many devices plugged into Comfort: before unplugging everything I just would like to understand how the interrupted transfer PC -> Comfort could affect any of them?!
If the problem lies with Comfort, what else could I try?
Thanks for the help!

Interrupting transfer to Comfort should not affect any devices as we do it quite often

The advise is based on what you describe as keypads continuoulsly which means there is no communications on the bus

Removing the devices and reconnecting will help to determine which device if any could be affecting the bus

Hi, there!
I\'ve unplugged the KA/KB connector, and when I power up Comfort the Green & Red lights turn on, and then the Red light turns off while the Green light remains on, never flashing. Shouldn\'t it start flashing after 10 seconds to indicate a communication failure? What would this indicate, a failure in the board? How could this be caused by an interrupted download PC->Comfort? By the way, with Comfort on the strobe is flashing if that helps in any way?!
Thanks for your help!

There appears to be a fault on the Comfort PCB

Thank you for your answer, Ident, though I was hoping not to hear that exactly... Any idea how an interrupted download PC-> Comfort via ethernet UCM could have damaged it?! I don\'t suppose I have a warranty after 2 years? :-) Thanks again...

Maybe I\'ll swap the PCBs between home and work (swapping NVMs too) and see what happens... :-)

Swapping the boards is a good idea
Do not worry, even if your  product is out of warranty any repair charges are nominal if the product can be repaired. Otherwise we will offer an upgrade in lieu of repair at a very reasonable price

Ok, I have finally discovered what is causing the home Comfort bus to hang! Considering that the Main board has two halves (which I will refer to as NVM half and Telcom half), when I swapped the (working) office NVM half with the home one everything worked fine. I then swapped the office Telcom half with the home one, and the same original problem occurred: no Comfort boot, with Green LED steady on, even when nothing is connected to Comfort. Swapping the office Telcom half back would bring everything to normal again. So the problem lies with the home Telcom half (PC01-051B 2), and I again ask: how an interrupted transfer PC->Comfort could affect it?! Anything I can do to fix it? Or should I have it replaced? Thanks for your help! :-)
