Hi,

Before I buy a UCM05 could you help me by answering some questions:

(1) I read somewhere else on the forums (but can't seem to find now) the setup for if you had a zone expansion daughterboard fitted which covers the MPU01.  Can you leave the UCM 6 pin connector connected at the MPU end and just disconnect either 2 pin or 4 pin or both connectors on the UCM05 when not flashing the firmware?

(2) To use the IR learning capability can someone explain how it works and how to connect up to the PC?

(a) I hear the IR learning LED's are on the UCM05 itself - True?

(b) If so then to capture these I need to plug in my PC into the serial port next to the comfort panel - True?  If so pretty inconvenient as the panel is at head height!

(c) If IR capture is via the serial port then can this be used if I have the Ethernet plugin board fitted.  I've heard I may need to remove this first - True? If so pretty inconvenient too!

The UCM manual is not very clear on how to setup the hardware to make this all work.

Also would be great to be able to mount the IR receiver LED next to my PC at the end of a zone input or something and connect to the UCM over ethernet to trigger the capture;  the software only allows COM port selection and not Ethernet for comms.

It seems to me that IR capture is not made easy by the hardware design.

Regards

Julian

Yes, leave the 6 pin connector and 2 pin connectors connected on the MPU. anmd connect the other end to the UCM when you need to upgrade the fiirmware. Remember that your MPU must be a Flash type, ie Firmware 5.100 and above

(2) To use the IR learning capability can someone explain how it works and how to connect up to the PC?

Just connect the UCM to the PC in the normal way, and go to Tools> Infrared Learner in Comfigurator. This is documented in the UCM Manual. Make sure that your UCM Manual is from the http://www.cytech.biz website, go to Product Information menu, Downloads on the left, Manuals and llook for the UCM Manual. Do not use manuals from any other source as these may not be up to date The latest doc verison is 3.3.3

Yes

The UCM can be moved closer to the PC as the UCM can be a long way away from Comfort. If the white 4 way cable is too short then use the terminal blocks for KA, KB, 12V, Gnd

(c) If IR capture is via the serial port then can this be used if I have the Ethernet plugin board fitted.  I've heard I may need to remove this first - True? If so pretty inconvenient too!

The new UCM can select either the Ethernet (if you have one plugged in) or the Serial port via a shunt marked RS232/485 ("485" for Ethernet) You do not need to remove the Ethernet board

Yes but then to capture IR codes I need to take the front panel off the system and point my Remote control at the card?  Hardly user friendly.  Can I not have an IR receiver connected to the card and outside of the case somehow?

Are you saying though that to use the IR learner, I still need to connect via the COM port (and move the shunt accordingly) or are you saying that the IR Learner software will run over ethernet as per the mode I'd normally be running comfigurator.

It is really designed for Installers to learn IR codes for customers. Sorry if you find it not user friendly. I dont think you will be having to learn IR codes every day. The new verson of the IR learner software allows Pronto IR codesto be converted to Comfort IR codes

Yes you need to connect it to the COM port and switch the jumper
