Hi Guys,

I have a problem at the moment which I must have introduced somewhere a long the line and I'm hoping someone here can help me fix it.

Anyway, whenever I download PC->Comfort, once it finishes the keypad continuously beeps and says 'Invalid Message Controller'.  Also, since this has happened I have noticed that the Keypad has stopped announcing all together.  The keypad does beep but it no longer speaks, i.e. I cannot hear the menu options through the keypad anymore.

Has anyone encountered this problem before?  Any suggestions on how to fix it? I have Comfort 1 version 4.227

Hi

I might be totally off the mark here but I had a problem a while back where downloading the config to Comfort caused very strange things on the keypad.  The system would reset and the keypad seemed active but wouldn't accept commands from the keypad, didn't bleep except for the first 3 keypresses and seemed to show the wrong date too.  Mines a Comfort Ultra II too so it may be a bit different.

I found I'd inadvertently set the number of keypads to zero in the "modeules and settings" page in Comfigurator.  I put this back to the correct figure and it all worked ok again.

Just in case it's the same for you.

Regards

Julian

Hi Julian,

Thanks for the reply and the suggestion.  I have checked the 'modules and settings' and the number of keypads is set to 1 which is correct.  I have also tried to download old backup ccl files to Comfort which used to work OK but I still keep getting the same error now

Its a very wierd problem, hopefully slychiu or adlim can help me fix it.

Hi,

Some questions to help us figure out the problem.

1. Could it be a case of wrong ID setting on the keypad?
2. When you revert back to the old backup, does the keypad work (for voice menu)?
3. When you press the keys on the keypad, do the keys beep after 5 presses?

Regards

Hi adlim,

Thanks for the reply.  In answer to your questions:

1. To change the ID of the keypad, is this something that is changed on the physical keypad itself?  If so then I have never touched the physical keypad, I don't like playing with the hardware at all, I will bring the installers back if that’s required.  If the Keypad ID is changed through Comfigurator then I would have thought that reverting to a backup would have fixed it?
2. When I revert back to an old backup unfortunately the voice menu on the keypad still doesn't work.  This is strange because my old backup files used to work fine.
3. Not sure, I will test this at home tonight (i'm currently at work).

The system was working fine until the other day when I used the keypad to open the garage door.  I wasn't making any changes in Comfigurator at the time, rather, I just wanted to open the garage door using the keypad since I left my wireless fob in the car.  Once I selected 'open' in the garage door menu on the keypad then I experienced the 'Invalid Message Controller' and continuous alarm beeps on the keypad then the voice prompts stopped working all together.  I then opened up Comfigurator and selected 'Reset' in Comfigurator but the 'Invalid Message Controller' and continuous alarm beeps still happened on the keypad.  Then I reverted to an old backup file but the same problem is still there, i.e. 'Invalid Message Controller' message and continuous alarm beeps on KP04.

Is there some sort of hard rest or reboot I can do to try and fix the problem?

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

Warwick

Hi,

1. The keypad ID is set physically on the keypad, not via Comfigurator.
2. Guess you could try and see whether you are able to access the system using a remote dial-in or a local phone sign-in. This would verify that the voice menu and control panel are both still working and it is a problem on the keypad.
3. If the key presses do not beep after 5 presses, it would suggest to me that the communications to the keypad is lost, else it would be another issue.

Regards

Hi adlim,

I just tried remote dial-in and unfortunately the voice menu is not working at all, just silence.  Have you seen this before?  Does this sound like a hardware issue?

Thanks for your help

Warwick

Hi,

Do you mean to say that Comfort picks up the call, but announces nothing?

Try verifying that Comfort is working fine. Check the LEDs on the Comfort control panel and see whether they are indicating correctly, i.e. D54 and D55 should not both be turned on. If that is so, it would mean that there is a mismatch between the configuration and the firmware.

Regards

Yes Comfort picks up the call, but announces nothing.

When I use the keypad it beeps with each keypress.  For example, I logged in, pressed 9, 3, 4, 1 to enable the Engineer Menu and the keypad was beeping with each keypress no problems.  That slight background noise when KP04 usually announces words is still there, its just that no words are announced.

I opened up Comfort, D55 Green light is on but D54 is off.

The alarm side of Comfort seems to be working OK.  The CBus UCM works OK and Comfort is also controlling the heater through IR OK as well. Comfort is also opening the Garage Door OK.

Three weeks ago the door station stopped working.  I.e. when I press the button on the door station it does not ring the phones, and there is no chime on the keypad anymore.  It has happened before and I will need to get the installer back out again to fix it, I’m not sure if this is related or not.

Hi,

If youo say everything else is going fine, it suggests to me that the problem would be on your Comfort vocabulary being corrupted. Could you try and download the vocabulary onto your board? Make sure you download the right version.

Regards

Thanks for the suggestion adlim, much appreciated.  I will definately try and download the vocabulary again.  I left a message with Ian Clarke to return my call so I can confirm with him the correct version I need to download.

Thanks again.

I spoke to Ian Clarke who kindly sent me the correct voice file and told me how to load it in Comfigurator.  I just finished loading the voice file and the keypad voice started working again!!  Thanks to Ian and adlim for all the help in solving this issue!  Much appreciated! :D

I'm not sure how the vocab got corrupted in the first place but at least I know how to fix it now.
