Evening all
In the last month or so I have experienced comfort zones randomly freezing. IE. Sticking in a particular state.
It can be a single zone or multiple zones.
A refresh of the zone from the SmartThings app does not recover it, but mostly a Bypass On followed by a Bypass Off normally brings it back to life.
Any idea how I can troubleshoot this in more detail to find out where the breakdown in communication is happening?
I tried to download logs from the alpha-uhai page, but it downloads a 0 byte file.
Hoping for some help
Thanks Jim

Are you refering to Comfort freezing, or are you refering to Smarthings
If you are refering to smarthings, you have to take into consideration that it is a cloud based system with inherent issues of so many variables which will make ST less reliable for information!

It is the SmartThings Thing that represents the Comfort zone that is freezing/sticking. The problem is unique to Comfort Things (other Things continue to function during these issues), so it is not a general SmartThings cloud issue.
I am looking to diagnose where the problem lies. I can see what is/isn't happening in the SmartThings logs and on the Comfort Comfigurator.
What I can't see is what is happening on the Pi as I can't download any logs from the UHAI page.
I will do more detailed troubleshooting in the coming days, but I am interested to know if I am alone in these types of issues. If so, I would tend to suspect my own network connectivity or Comfort UCM.
Thanks
Jim

I do have similar problems with Smarthings but as I previously mentioned there are a lot of variables that have to be contended with as their is a lot of comunications that have to be achieved using three platforms......

Hi Guys
Sorry about the delay in following up - head is down in other stuff. Some quick qeustions:
When the zones freeze, is it everything.
Do you get any numbers reported in the EPM on the Comfort Bridge thing?
Can you get to the web interface on the Pi?
Can you generate log files on the Pi?
I suspect this is an internet connection issue, but would be good to get answers on the above.
Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt
Thanks for your reply. Answers as follows:
It can be one thing, multiple or all. For example, I can have a door or a PIR stuck on "Motion" indefinitely, but with other doors and PIRs responding normally.
EPM does show numbers and if I refresh the Bridge the EPM numbers will increase as subscriptions are refreshed. However, refreshing the Bridge does not recover the frozen item (even though it shows subscription refreshed). It normally needs a Bypass On followed by a Bypass Off for the thing to return to normal.
I can get to the web interface on the Pi (even during these issues)
Non Comfort things continue to work during these issues
I cannot generate logs from the Pi. A 0 Byte file is downloaded
Hope this helps
Regards
Jim

Hi Matt
Don't know if you have had any time to think about this at all?
It is getting worse, there is barely a day goes by now that I don't have one of the comfort zones freezing up.
I agree that it must be network related, but am keen to diagnose where the failure is occurring.
I feel the key to that may lie in the Pi logs, which I can't get access to.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jim

Good Morning
Faced with a complete lock up in all communications between Comfort and SmartThings, I looked at my Comfort UCM and found the Eth03 wasn't responding to a Ping. I pressed the reset button on eth03 and regained communications.
At this point I noticed that some comfort zones briefly communicated with SmartThings. But not for long, so I went to the UHAI page for a look and noticed that it was now showing the dreaded 0M Free disk space. I tried to download logs again, but still getting a 0KB logs.tar.gz file.
I flushed the logs and reclaimed 4M of disk space.
There was still nothing happening on SmartThings so I reset the Comfort Bridge Thing while monitoring the Comfort Bus. Nothing appeared on the Comfort Bus, but the Free disk space quickly reduced to 1.3M and is still going down.
My simplistic analysis tells me that SmarThings is communicating with the Pi, but the Pi is failing to communicate with Comfort.
I have studied the post on Free space problem and can confirm that I have a Pi certified 2A psu, but while I have been typing this post, I am now down to 0M again.
So now I appear to have 2 urgent areas to tackle:
1) Re-install the image. From the post, I couldn't see if there was a method to re-install the image whilst retaining the setup. Is this possible?
2) Find out if I have a hardware problem or a network connectivity problem. For this I really need to get the UHAI logs.
Thanks
Jim

Hi Jim
Sorry to hear you have been having problems. I'd be happy to work on this issue 'on-line' via screen sharing session as it's really hard to diagnose remotely. The 0 bytes space on the SD card is indicative of a serious issue with the SD card or the PSU.
Do you have copies of the configuration file you used to set the Pi up? If so, you should be able to recreate it without losing your configuration.
Drop me a PM and we can go from there on trying to diagnose and get this working,
Thanks,
Matt
