I have set up a (very) small Z-Wave network using a Popp Battery Wall Controller and a Popp Dimmer Socket from Vesternet. I found it very easy to set up the Wall Controller as the Primary Controller and include the Socket so it could be controlled with buttons 1 & 2 on the Wall Controller.

However, when I put the UCM/Z-Wave into learn mode (Busy2 lights up) and instruct the controller to "Send Node Information Frame and Wake Up Notification" there are no flashes on RDY and the learn eventually times out with status reverting to "UCM/Z-Wave not in any network. The controller and UCM/Z-Wave are in the same room. Any help appreciated as I don't know where to go from here.

I think I have solved this. I had asked Vesternet what I should do with the controller when instructions from a bridge controller (UCM/Z-Wave) say "Press the ‘Learn’ button, then activate the sending of system information from the controller using the procedures given by the Z-Wave device manufacturer" and the reply was follow instructions in the manual to "Send Node Information Frame and Wake Up Notification". This I did (i.e. press all 4 buttons then button 2) with no response from the UCM/Z-Wave.

Looking at the UCM/Z-Wave manual section "Inclusion/Replicating for Various Manufacturers" it seemed to me that in a number of cases it was saying just put the controller in Include mode. So I did this with the Popp controller (i.e. press all 4 buttons, then button 3 then button 1) and that seems to have allowed the UCM/Z-Wave to read the network configuration.

I would have thought (naively obviously) that the UCM/Z-Wave learn mode was waiting for a controller to send it something and a controller in Include mode would be waiting for another node to send it its details but I guess its not at simple as that. Anyway it does seem to have worked so hope this might help someone else.

In fact, the using Learn mode in UCM/Zwave is the same as adding a  new Zwave node to the controller.

I am not sure what is  "Send Node Information Frame and Wake Up Notification" as we do not require wake-up notification

Thanks for updating on the correct way to use this controller
Please let us know how thee rest of the project goes

Thanks for the clarification. Perhaps the UCM/Z-Wave manual should say something like "Press the ‘Learn’ button and put the Z-Wave primary Controller into Start Inclusion mode" rather than "Press the ‘Learn’ button, then activate the sending of system information from the controller using the procedures given by the Z-Wave device manufacturer".
