I intend to add UCM/ZWave to my system and i am totally new in Z-Wave world.
As i understood from UCM/Zwave manual, i need a pripary controller to include Zwave devices into my system.
Can anyone suggest me a cheap ZWave primary controller, from that i can, then, copy the config to UCM/Zwave?

You can take a remote, such as the qees for that.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good primary controller for Zwave?

We have tested some models eg ACT (not recommended), Merten, Minimote, Aeon (not good as it reqiuires software to do association), MK?

What are some other good ones?

Hello Chiu,
i've abandoned the Z-Wave world. I'm stick only to UCM/KNX and Comfort shines with that. I've no suggestion for ZWave, sorry.

The Vera Edge has been recommended as a good Primary controller that can be used with Comfort

If you want to experiment with Z-Wave and Comfort without too much expenditure then a wall switch/controller (e.g. http://www.vesternet.com/z-wave-popp-wallcontroller) and an on/off socket is a good start. However, although Z-Wave devices work "out of the box" probably at some stage you will want to configure some device parameters and then you will need a different Primary Controller. I am now experimenting with Vera Edge which (so far) seems to fit the bill.

Hello
I have just had Comfort 2 installed with ZWave UCM. I also have the Vera Edge. How do I get Vera Edge to add device so Comfort can learn ZWave network.
Please help on which device to select to add or what option I go into on the Vera Edge screen

If I recall ...... the Vera edge had a list of 'Alarms' with a pull down menu with different alarm manufacturers.....
Would it not be possible to get Comfort listed !

I'm trying to get Zwave setup with my Comfort install as there are some Velux windows I need to monitor using Zwave open/close sensors.

Zwave UCM is installed and detected and has an aerial installed. I use Samsung SmartThings as my primary controller of the Zwave network. I clicked Read from EEProm and then it says UCM/Z Wave not in any network (which if I read the guides correctly, that should be how it shows up first time). I then clicked Learn and it just stays at "Waiting for response from Z Wave" indefinitely.

I set the Timeout 1 and Timeout 2 in Comfort Server Manager to 05 (is that 5 mins?).

If it helps, I also have a mini PC running Jinx lighting control software and a Linux box running OpenHab. I have a Zwave USB stick (can't recall which supplier) so could perhaps try that route if there's an issue with SmartThings.

Looks like I've made some progress. Went into Samsung SmartThings app, scanned for devices and clicked Learn in Comfort at the same time. A Zwave controller device came up in SmartThings so I renamed it Comfort Zwave Controller and added it. The "Waiting for Zwave response" disappeared right away and it seemed to work, status bar now says Normal/No error.

The Zwave Mapping tab looks light, just has one PC Controller, 4 Slave-Repeater Slave devices, and a Static Controller. Can't recall which of my devices on SmartThings are Zigbee and which are Zwave, but thought I had more than 4 devices, possibly not.

Question now is do I need to add the window/door sensors in SmartThings, ensure they are working correctly there, and then rescan in Comfort? So, in essence, Comfort controls nothing but is part of the Zwave conversation in that it hears everything going on and can add to the conversation, but it does not act unilaterally? Think that makes sense if so.

The UCM/Zwave is a Secondary Controller in Zwave. It can only learn the zwave network from the Primary controller. All zwave nodes must be added first by the primary, and after that UCM/Zwave can Learn or relearn the network
Note that some Zwave devices like Fibaro FGD212 dimmmmer which use encryption is not compatible, unless there is a non-encryted mode
