Since my original post referring to an article in build regarding the use of Home Automation equipment as a Fire alarm I thought that I would do a series of posts relating specifically to comfort as a fire alarm.

Here are some suggested headings:

* Recommended wiring topology and cables
* Different manufacturers
* Smoke heat C02 ?
* Wiring NC with EOL and latching / non latching bases
* Customer use / operation
* Programming
* Commissioning
* Setting up service schedules.

If any body has any immediate questions then please post otherwise ill work my way through the above headings when time permits.

Hi, having inherited a Comfort l system in my property and being a relative newbie, I am currently reprogramming my system from scratch using Comfigurator 2.

For the fire alarm, would you be able to help with a number of questions I have:

1. I have 3 smoke detectors in my property, what she easiest way to detect which zone they are assigned to?
2. Which zone type should I use, what is the difference between FireNC and FireNO?
3. How would I go about performing a test to ensure the fire alarms are working correctly?
4. Can I have the system call me should I be away from home and the fire alarm goes off?

Many thanks

Scott

Is this Scott from Stevenage by any chance !

Q1. I have 3 smoke detectors in my property, what is the easiest way to detect which zone they are assigned to?
A. Place the system in test mode and set each zone off individually. The sensor may have a test button or you can purchase cans of smoke (from a trade security/fire supplier).

Q2. Which zone type should I use, what is the difference between FireNC and FireNO?
A. Comfort detects an open loop (NO) or a closed loop (NC)- in the case of a fire alarm it is probably best to program as NC then if you get a break in the cable the alarm will sound. Depending on the type of smoke head it may be advisable to wire EOL (end of line resistors).

Q3. How would I go about performing a test to ensure the fire alarms are working correctly?
A. Let me know what smoke heads you have - as above they either have a 'test' button or you may have to use a can of smoke.

Q4. Can I have the system call me should I be away from home and the fire alarm goes off?
A. Yes of course = if you go to security type settings / alarm types you will see no 12 FIRE will be set up (by default) to dial out to a number of telephone numbers

Hi, yes this is Scott and I'm guessing you're one of two people. Many thanks again for all the help you have provided thus far, it's really appreciated.

With regards to Q1, will the test still work if no zone type is currently assigned? I only have the PIR zones for the motion sensors assigned at present, with all other zone numbers blank and am therefore not sure which zone numbers are for the fire alarms. Is it a case of temporarily assigning FireNC to any blank zones before the test to see which zone activates?

Thanks

Scott

A: You need to assign the zone type

A: yes correct

The alarm and fire alarm are now working correctly. Thanks again for all your help, I would have been truly stuck and don't think I would have a working alarm without it.

As i'm sure Cytech would say - if you like what you see then probably a good idea to think of an upgrade to Comfort 2.

Well done hope that you are able to grow the COmfort system - don't forget to keep a copy of the .cclx file document any changes and re-issue the file every time you change something. Just some good housekeeping...

One other question with regards to the fire alarm. Whilst performing a fire alarm test, I have noticed that the main external siren on the front of the house also sounds as well as the internal speaker , keypads, etc.

Is it possible to disable the external siren so that only the internal sirens will will go off when activated?

Many thanks

Scott

Firstly WHY would you want this to happen

If Comfort is being used to detect a FIRE then surely you would want every body in the vicinity to know !

If you do the test when in test mode the alarm will still sound but this is simply proving the system, I cannot imagine that few brief soundings of the bellbox is going to cause a problem when testing !

Of course i may have overlooked something or not be aware of all the facts!
