Just playing around and discovered that RAKO can now control Sonos. Which means using the UCM Universal - Comfort can now control Sonos :-) A quick play around tonight has music coming on in the kitchen when you come in and disarm the system.... Whether I will use it for anything practical I don't know - but its pretty cool! |

If you don't have RAKO, what modules would be required to do this beyond a U-UCM ? Thnx Last edited on Thursday Nov 10th, 2011 05:14 pm by palmlodge |

You'd need the RAKO APR Bridge to send the commands to the sonos unit and a RAKO RS232 interface to send the commands to the bridge from the UCM Uni. You could get away with the cheaper 232 one way one if all you were doing was controlling sonos. Last edited on Thursday Nov 10th, 2011 05:20 pm by schford |

Other than using Rako, Does anyone know how Sonos is controlled? Do they have Rs232 interface or other interface to other systems? |

There is no direct interface, nor any trigger method which I've been asking for since I first had Sonos in early Feb 2005 as I wanted to have Comfort control it. The Homeseer Sonos plugins are nowhere near robust enough, nor is the Homeseer Comfort plugin which is very unstable. You can only get to Sonos via uPnP - which I fear may be too much for Comfort to handle via the U-UCM ? |

Maybe you can bug sonos about making an interface to Comfort! |

There is and will be only one interface to Sonos - that being uPnP. You'll have to get the UCM to talk upnp for this to work directly. |

...but given UPnP is full of security holes so Cytech shouldn't touch it with a barge pole as it could open up access to the alarm side! http://www.zdnet.com/how-to-fix-the-upnp-security-holes-7000010584/ Julian |

This would be unlikely - you can control what you send and what you listen to and how you'd action that. I don't disagree that uPnP is not the most liked protocol, but that's what Sonos are using and there will be no other method. Their ethos means we won't see another interface, no 12v or 0v triggers, no IR. Whilst I do question any value of Comfort wanting to control Sonos beyond play, pause, or stop reading the status of a Sonos zone would be invaluable to make decisions on controlling other devices such as IR switching, AC control, room music occupancy detection, etc. For example, by detecting the status of the Sonos Playbar either being fed music from the Sonos zone or from the TV's TOSLink, I can use Comfort for occupancy detection and turn off devices, put the TV into standby, etc. I could even send the Playbar IR commands for control (but only that zone), whereas now I just programme a remote control to do that.
