I bought one of the very first LCD KP04's - but I have to say the contrast on the display is very poor In my advancing years I now can't read the LCD without glasses. This isn't helped by one end of the LCD backlighting only working if you press it and a couple of keys that stick when pressed .. so I've never installed it. Does anyone know if later models are better in contrast/backlighting ?
Or..is it possible to swap out the LCD for any commercially available high contrast display like the blue/white or yellow/black ones which seem much much better ? ie is it a standard LCD module ?

I have not heard that there was a contrast problem in the KP04 LCD after so many years. Perhaps it is a problem with the one you have
The backlighting can be turned on permanently by a shunt header on the back
The LCD cannot be exchanged for another model as most LCDs have different dimensions. Since you have not used it, why not ship it back to the factory (address will be provided) and if we find it is an LCD problem which causes the poor conttast and keys are sticking we wil replace it and return to you

The contrast still doesn't look very high on the KP06 - but that could be just the photos I guess.

The contrast should be better in KP06 because it is white background and white backlight compared to green/yelllow on KP04. However the LCD is smaller compared to KP04
