I installed a C-Bus UCM a couple of weeks ago and noticed that I get an irregular problem with the UCM "locking up". I'm primarily using the UCM to translate zone on/off status and the security mode to the C-Bus lighting application.

When the UCM locks up, it stops sending levels to the C-Bus, Comfort itself carrys on working fine. LEDs on the UCM show RDY as on, and D10 & D9 flashing, all other LEDs are off.

Resetting the UCM does not recover C-Bus communications, that requires a reset of the main Comfort panel.

I've currently on quite an old Comfort system, Pro 4.170. C-Bus UCM is 5.154.

It seems to be getting more frequent now. I've just done another reset, and C-Bus communications have failed after a few minutes.

After a bit of messing, it looks like a C-Bus device could be to blame. I'm using a PAC as a PCI to the C-Bus network at the moment, have been running test logic in Piced.

It appears that whenever I disconnect the usb cable to the PAC and try to use it as a standalone controller, Comfort stops sending to C-Bus!

We dont have any experience with a PAC so we dont know how it interferes

Whenever Comfort sends any data to Cbus you should see the BUSY2 LED blink If it does that, it means the information has been transmitted to Cbus. There is also an acknowledgement from the bus otherwise the BUSY2 will remain on, and the ERR
You can verify that by disconnecting the Cbus cable and sending some info

If the BUSY2 and ERR remain off then Comfort has sent its data successfully and something on the Cbus is preventing the devices from receiving

I've just put the UCM into the "locked" state, BUSY2 still blinks when sending to C-Bus so it looks like a problem on the C-Bus side of things.

I'll take this over to the C-Bus forums and see if they can shed any light on the issue.

Thanks for the help.

I think I've found the problem. Watching the C-Bus log in Toolkit, the UCM becomes unresponsive after the PAC does a date and time broadcast.
According to the UCM manual, date/time application isn't supported until firmware 4.204 and I'm still on 4.170.

Does this sound like a probable course to you?

I believe I can get a firmware upgrade from cbus-shop.com in the UK.

This looks like it may be the cause.
The Comfort I upgrade is IC01-ULT firmware 4.234 (U1 microcontroller) and IC04-256K (EEPROM). This is an upgrade to Comfort I Ultra, you currently have Comfort I PRO The new firmware will support the Cbus Security application as well as the date and time application

You will have to use Comfigurator to Convert your file system from 18 to 24 for Comfort I Ultra T

However if you have UCM 5.178 or above you can try to upgrade the UCM/Cbus firmware to 5.200 before you order the Comfort firmware upgrade. Go to http://www.cytech.biz/upgrades.html and look for UCM/CBus firmware

cbus-shop list IC01-ACT as the upgrade to Ultra 1. Is that the same as IC01-ULT?

My mistake. IC01-ACT is the correct part number

Just a quick update.

I installed firmware 4.234 yesterday. It has appeared to resolve my issues.

Thanks for the help :)
