Hi,

I thought it would be a good idea to upgrade to the latest firmware but I am now unable to get my system working again.

I upgraded from firmware 5.121 to 5.172.

At first everything seemed to work so I wondered if I needed to resest the system by taking away and restoring power. Before doing this I tried updating vocabulary to Kate29 but this failed after a few seconds so I reset the system anyway.

The system failed to come back. After a reset I initially get some beeps from the keypads, keypad 1 is blank and keypad 2 says "Communication Failure Keypad 2". The Green "off" LED flashes on both keypads and neither of them respond to keypresses. I am also unable to connect using UCM.

I tried uploading the firmware again which appears to work but again the system doesn't work. My guess is it's either a problem with using the new firmware or I've knocked a wire or shorted it while moving things inside the case. The only thing I can think to do is revert firmware to 5.121 so I can confirm if the problem is the new firmware or not but I don't have version 5.121.

Any help would be appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Tas

I was able to find Firmware version 5.145 so I tried that and I get different results. The system is still not working but it's more like I expect to start with. The tamper alarm sounds and I am able to cancel it by using my sign in code. However I then get some error saying that the text is incorrect asks for *1 to download. I try this and it fails. The system UCM is again unresponsive.

This leads me to beleive that it's the new firmware which is a problem so I either need to go back to 5.121 or find out what I need to do to get 5.172 working.

Many Thanks,

Tas

Hi Tas,

You said at first when you have upgraded the system from version 5.121 to 5.172, everything seems to work without the need to reset?
This is a very unlikely scenario for every firmware upgrade procedure is ended by a reset to the system; otherwise, the system will not work as the communication is down.
I suspect that the firmware upgrade had not commenced and when you removed the programming cable the system resumed.
Did you refer to the UCM manual for the proper firmware upgrading procedure?

You also mentioned that you tried updating the vocab to Kate29 and failed after few seconds; this may cause the current vocab to be corrupted.
Does your system still have voice?
If there is no voice, you will need to do the vocab upgrading again.

What other modules are connected to the system?
Which one is currently working and which one is not?

Hi,

Thanks for helping. Yeah, I am familiar with the procedure and beleive I did the firmware updates correctly.

The UCMs weren't working when I quit last night and powered comfort off. This morning the main UCM I use was working again. Anyhow I was able to upload the kate29 vocab succesfully

After this the system appeared to be back to normal. I tried uploading 5.172 again and it worked fine without any problems.

As you said, most of the problems were probably down to the failed vocab download. I think I was confused by the UCM not working but I have now noticed that comfigurator sometimes fails to connect after a firmware update and you have to restart it. This is probably what threw me last night when I was tired and less systematic.

Thanks again for the help. Hopefully all will work now but I have to check all the programmed features and interfaces are functioning.

Tas
