Hi

I'm having problems with my ACT switches locking up with Comfort.

Is worrying that when the light is on and pressing the switch turns off the switch itself (the led goes out) but not the connected load (the lights!).

Whilst the switch could be faulty,  it seems to be only happening when I switch the source via the Zwave UCM.  I've backed off doing this for the moment and just using the switch and ZTH200 remote to do this for now to try and isolate the problem a bit further.

Has anyone seen this before?

Julian

When you use the local switch on the ACT Lamp or Appliance Module to switch off the attached light, the LED goes off but the Light does not?
This should not have anything to do with Comfort as it is a local operation

Can you repeat this with the UCM/Zwave disconnected so there is no possible interference from it?

Hi ident

Yes I'm happy to concede if it's the switch going faulty but it's brand new though and only been installed for a month.

Last time it happened yesterday, no amount of button on/offs via switch or remote would get the lights to switch off even though the led turned on/off.  I even pulled all power to the lighting circuit but when I reconnected the lights came on again. So either the ACT switches have memory or something was telling it to switch on again.

Next time it happens I'll try restarting comfort to see if that clears it,  then disable the UCM as the next test (might even totally turn off comfort) to try to isolate.

I'm keen to get to the bottom of,  if it's a faulty switch,  so I can return it to the supplier for a replacement.

Hi,

I replaced the switch with a new one after some swapping around of existing switches.  The problem went away (ie not being able to switch OFF the light)  for a while but comes back occasionally so i'm beginning to rule out the switch (as this is the 2nd in the location to go wrong). It's back today.

I emailed ACT in the US a couple of months back and they said it could be the switch, interference from the CFL light bulbs etc. I didnt mentioned Comfort was also in the loop!!

So having already swapped out the switch and the unit still locked up today, I:

(1) Removed from group and re-added...still locked ON (incl local switch)

(2) reset the unit (switch) via ZTH200 remote...still locked ON (incl local switch)

(3) removed all CFL light bulbs (so no chance of interference from them).  Put one back and it was still ON.  Put in a normal incandescent and still ON.

(4) reset comfort.  About a couple of seconds before the keypad announced i pressed the remote and the light went OFF.

So I'm definately leaning towards Comfort being involved somehow.  But it's not all of the time (been a couple of months since it last happened).  How can I/we debug this and see if Comfort is doing something strange on the RF side? Could it be some sort of intermittent interference from Comfort?

Help...

Regards

Julian

Hi,

Hmmm... interesting problem.  Despite changing the hardware and Z-Wave ID, the problem still persists.  And it only happens in one location (Z-Wave unit).

When another lockup happens, use Comfort Bus Monitor software to trace if there is any commands sending to UCM/ZWave to trigger it on.  Maybe there is an endless loop of commands going on.  Try to zero in the culprit triggering this response.  Usually you can tell from the events before this... like zone 1 on etc.

If there isn't an endless commands, then power off the UCM/Z-Wave module.  Check if the problem disappears.  PM me the version of UCM/Zwave and the monitor log as well.  I try to recreate the problem here.

You may also PM me if there is any new developments.

Good luck.

Leon
