Has anybody tried or is it possible to control 2 SKY boxes using Comfort? Perhaps using IR or RS232

I have an installation with Comfort and a distributed audio/video system installed. The client has a centrally located SKY box next to the Comfort panel and Audio/Video Hub. The client has a programmable remote which sends the IR Codes which are in turn picked up on the audio network and sent back to the SKY Box. However he now wants to look at installing SKY Multiroom and the audio system cannot discriminate between 2 identical SKY boxes.

My idea is to program the remote with an new set of codes for the second box and these codes are sent on the audio network back to the hub. Now comes the bit where I'm not sure what the best approach to take is. What I need to achieve is;

1- Get the IR signal output from the Audio hub into Comfort.
2- Program comfort so that when it receives a particular IR Code it converts it back to the correct code for box two and sends eitheir a SKY IR signal out to a window emmiter stuck onto box 2 or an RS232 Signal which is sent to the SKY Box.

I am not sure exactly what you are trying to do since I am not familiar with Sky boxes and Sky multiroom audio

You can use the UCM05 or older UCM/IR to learn the Sky remote control buttons and send the IR codes through any output using the IR transmitters

Alternatively ypu can use the IR learner software which is in Comfigurator to convert Pronto codes to Comfort ifr format

It is important to note that Comfort can send any learned IR code, but Comfort IR receivers can recognise Comfort IR codes only. Comfort IR codes when received can trigger Responses which can be used to send  an learned IR code eg Sky through the IR emitters on any output

I hope that gives you more information regarding your needs

Comforts IR is not that fluid, good for simple control but more complex IR control is best dedicated system or remote.

For separated control of Sky boxes try these...

Works with all Sky boxes and just replaces the IR emitter stuck on the front of the box. This assumes that the distribution system is capable of IR routing.

If not, that might be where Comfort could come in. An IR receive command could be used to operate an output with a relay. The relay could then switch the IR output from the distribution system to the appropriate SKY box.

Thanks Guys

Still a bit unsure about this. I cant see how the bluedelta products will work. The audio system I am using is Systemline Modular and it has an IR jack connection on the front of the hub which you can plug an IR emmitter into.
The problem is Systemline does not discriminate between IR outputs. In other words if I press "channel up" then that IR command is brodcast everywhere on the system. I need something at the hub which will  decode my new made up sky codes "channel up box2" back into sky codes and recognise that it is box 2 which needs to be controlled.

OK so now we know the multiroom audio system and that it does not do IR routing.

The advantage of the BlueDelta products is that they take the IR output from say SystemLine and inject it direct into the RF2 instead of via an IR emmiter. If you use an IR emmiter there is the chance that the light attached to one SKY box could shine out and control the other.

Now to the bit you are really intrested in. What you need to do is route the IR commands.

- Fit an IR receiver to Comfort
- Program Comfort to respond to a IR code
- Send IR command to Comfort.
- Comfort switches a Relay to control the IR output from SystemLine and switch it (direct it) to the IR emmiter attached to the appropriate SKY box.
