Hi

I am trying to restore Comfort from communication failure 92 on one of me SCS.

Usually powering the system off and on will rectify the problem.

Three hours into trouble shooting, I am clueless.

The is no voice on the keypad, the engineer's signon reports invalid code (F0).

It however responds to the regular signon via Comfigurator.

Tried removing all power to the system for an hour, still no joy

Need help

Thanks

If there is no voice on the keypad, do a Vocab download. Your system may have lost the voice somehow
TRansfer > Vocab download, select  kate28.bin download from webskite

Hi

Had the system powered off for 12 hours. Restored power this morning and all seemed to be fine, 5 minutes later, problem reoccurs.

It now reports a different comms failure ID after each power off. Keypad reports SCS/RIO 11. The leds on the SCS are blinking when pressed. Keypad locks after a few button press.

ps: date on the keypad is showing 8 Jun 2008

Desperately seeking your assistance

Thanks

I suspect one of the devices on the KA/KB is locking up the Rs485 bus. It could be one of the slaves of SCS or other modules

When you have this problem, start disconnecting the modules one by one from the KA/KB Rs485 bus until the communbications is restored and the keypad has voice

Also send the event log and the ccl file to support@cytech.biz for us to look at

Hi,

Just for clarification :

I understood that unpluging an SCS without changing the no of SCS/RIO on the Modules & Setting will cause a comms failure and a beeping keypad ? So I am wandering if unplugging the SCS/RIO is not going to cause a comms failure by default.

Thanks

Yes, unplugging a SCS or any other module wil cause a communication failure
However the situation with your Comfort (ie keypad does not respond) could be due to the whole bus being tied down by a faulty module or perhaps shorted wiring
Hence unplugging each module may remove the shorted module from the bus and let the system recover, so you can find the faulty module
You should also check that the bus wires are not shorted

Hi,

Added power to Comfort after 13 hours.

System seems to be 'norma'l. I had a comms problem with Serial UCM (Ucm 2) after checking I found it disconnected from last night. Replaced cable and received another  comms failure on UCM 2 when someone pressed the door station.

Please take a look at my ccl and event log and feedback for a solution

Thanks

ps : I been a hour since Comfort is up with no issues

From the event log, when the problem occurs all the modules, KP, DP, SCS  report communications failure. You keypad has no voice because it cannot communicate
This supports what I suspected, that either a short on the Rs485 KA/KB bus or a faulty module caused all the modules to be unable to communicate with Comfort
Each time the Door station is reported first in the log as showing communications failure.
Your system seems to have recovered which means the short or fault is intermittent
When this happens again, unplug the Door station from the bus, and se if it recovers.
If not continue with the SCS modules.

I will monitor the system closely. If the cause is a short then I too suspect that it might be the door station since it is the only cable that is in the ground (in a conduit)

Thanks

Hi

I seem to be having endless problems with my Comfort system.

This is the third incidence since my last post. Switching the system off for 14+ hours seems to bring the system back to life and stays that way for a week or so.

Please take a look at my log file and advise

Thanks

The event log shows communication failures which start with one module and affect all the rest
As I have said in the previous post this is because of either the bus wire shoirted to soemthing or a faulty module which pulls down the whoe bus
In the Rs485 bus topology any device which has a fault which pulls down the bus will affacte the whole bus
When this happens again, do NOT switch off the Comfort system  as that will not solve the problem or identify what is the cause
You have to disconnect each module from the bus until the Communications recovers - you will get Communications restore messages
The last device disconnected will be the culprit
This assumes that a module is faulty but the cause is just as likely to be a bus wire shorted at the modules not with the modules themselves

Hi

I have 4 RIO and 8 SCS modules, would the bus be the 'KA/KB' connections ?

Thanks

Yes, the RS485 bus is the KA/KB wires which connect all Comfort modules together
The cable used should be CAT 5 or equivalent twisted pairs
This should be checked thoroughly as wiring is usualy the main cause of problems, eg loose connections, shorts, open circuit, high resistance, not using twisted pairs etc
