Dear All,

I have installed many Comfort Systems over the past three years and all have worked without a hitch. I always use similar components in my setups so as to learn from each installation.

Recently I decided to install a unit for myself at home and guess what it didn't work!! The Comfort is the latest Ultra II. My problem is that the Cequera bell box I have installed is not sounding when I do a siren test. Actually to correct myself the unit did work with just one siren test then never again!. I also brought another Cequera bell box from work, installed this and the same happened.

Any ideas?

On Ultra II, the bellbox is connected to SRN- and SRN+, also check the polarity

Some bellboxes require a lot of current - make sure that a battery is connected so that it can temporarliy supply extra current if required for the siren

Can you check the voltage between SRN- and SRN+ when the siren is turned on? It should be 12V  or more. Please check this when the siren is not connected and then when it is connected

Finally I have had the time to check this out. In fact there is nothing connected to SRN+. I am using the truth table (as I always do) for the Cequra Bellbox. Here is what I have on the Comfort manual (which normally on other comforts works just fine):

Comfort       TR              12VF                   COM                 SRN-       STR-

Cequra    Tamper     +ve Hold Off        -ve Hold Off        Siren       Strobe

I have checked the voltage and found this to be 13.55v. Do you think I should move the wire from the 12VF to the SRN+?

You should connect the +ve supply to the bellbox to SRN+ rather than 12VF. SRN+ is a 12V supply for the SRN circuit while 12VF is the supply for Strobe and Speaker. Both are actually 12V connected to resettable fuses but it is best to keep them separate

The voltage you should measure is between SRN- and SRN+ when the siren turns on and when the siren is not on. You should be getting 12V when the siren on on and a small voltage 1 V when off.

Swap the comfort with another one of possible to test

Dear Mr Chiu,

I have now tested this throughly and have concluded that my comfort is defective. I have once again tested the voltage on the SRN- and SRN+ and found this to be 0v when the siren is meant to be off and just 0.05v when the siren is meant to be on. (this I tested by using the siren test option from the keypad). I also tried to select the reverse siren option on configurator and even then the highest volatge registered was 0.05v.

I have contacted Cequra directly and advised them of how the LEDs were flashing on the bell box and they told me that normally this indicates a power problem. I am told that either the transformer or the Comfort itself is defective.

Just my luck! - but at least this happened to me and no one of my clients.

At this point I'd like to ask about RMA procedure

I will give you instructions by private message. Siren driver faults are very rare though

Dear All,

I would like to tell you that I have finally solved this problem! It was caused by two problems. One was that I was using a faulty resistor inside my bellbox and two the Cequra bellbox I am using has a small plastic washer  and cover used to cover the bolt which is used to secure the bell box's outside cover. This was not inserted corrected does not allowing the tamper switch to close correctly.

This issue has been solved. Mr Chiu many thanks for your help on this!

I am glad to maintain our 100% record on Comfort having no siren faults:D

JUst trying to pick up on Cequra bellboxes.....I have one fitted (a long time ago, over 8 years),  and purchased a new one to have 2 on property.

I can't remember fitting resistor on bellbox previously( may be wrong)..Have you found them needed and was it across hold off +ve to siren and hold off+ve to strobe.

Additionally is it best to fit two bellboxes in series or in parallel (Chiu)

thanks

Campbell

Cambell
If you have trwo bellboxes, they should be connected in parallel so that the same voltage is applied across them. If you connect them in series, then each would see about 1/2 the 12V supplies from Ciomfort and they probably would not work

My apologies...as I said I am mechanical based....

It was with respect to tamper.... I appreciate the voltage will be in parallel. I'll connect up the cables at the alarm panel to complete the series.

I just know once I've added in the additional bellbox, I'll have current problems

thanks

Comfort / Users,

Today i replaced my Cequera bellbox with a new one, the Cequera 2. These bellboxes have exactly the same connections, so i know i wired them correctly. The new Cequera 2 is working OK, except one thing; when arming the system it does not output the 2 short beeps i was used to before.

The only difference between the old an new bellbox is that the new bellbox has 2 1K resistors attached to the Cequera PCB as mentioned in the manual. My old bellbox worked flawlessly without these.

Any idea why this is happening?

Regards,

Frans

Perhaps the new Cequra model is not able to respond to short pulses
Increase the duration of the 2 pulses by going to Security Types > Sound Types > Armed2Beeps, increase Tone1ms (duration of the 1st tone) to 400 ms and Tone2ms (duration of 2nd tone) to 1000. If you hear the sounds, then you can adjust the duration parameters as required

Hi (forgive me im a newby on a sharp learning curve) Does anyone know how to match up the Vortex bell box wiring to the comfort Ultra panel The Siren and strobe work fine, however Im at a loss as to the tamper.

Bell Box Config as follows:

Hold+     Hold-    TG    STB-     Return

This is the set up so far:

Bell box     Comfort Ultra
Hold+        SRN+
Hold-         ????
TG             SRN-
STB-          STR-
Return       ????

Hold- I think should go to Com (but which one)
Return, is bell tamper return but to where.

Any help would be appreciated

I recently had exactly the same problem with a new Cequra. 2 beep arm gone and generally flaky siren response.
After much testing I changed the timing of Tone1 400ms Tone2 (=pause) to 300ms AND had to take the resistors out.

Seems like Comfort was struggling to control the siren with them in even though the SRN+/- voltage was 13v.

Don't  forget to adjust the Siren type Armed Away to 1.1s (400+300+400ms)
