(1) The ID issue - the UCM Manual states that "SW7 (RS485 ID) should normally be set to 1 according to table 1.1 (Shunts A,B,C inserted) if this UCM is used for reading/writing Comfort configuration file. By convention, UCM ID=1 is reserved for reading/writing Comfort configuration file using Comfigurator, because when this UCM ID is disconnected, Comfort does not report “Communications Failure”, while with UCM IDs 2 to 8, communications failure will be reported". Hence my question concerning the error "Communications Failure". So I understand from your answer that you consider it does not matter which ID I have set for direct upgrade.

(2) When you say "direct connection" I assume this includes routing through a network hub/switch?
