Query on Rako > UCM Uni > Comfort
#1
First up - this stuff is sheer brilliance the more I use it the more I realise how powerful it is!

I have noticed a strange quirk though and wondered if it was supposed to work like this.

Currently I have it so that the UCM Universal will write to a specific room counter the state of the lights in the room eg 00 for off etc.

EG If I press button 1 for scene 1 it will write 03 to Counter KitchenLight which is great (thanks for the help via email btw)

IT does this for the rest of the scenes too. So I can do cool stuff like change the amount of time it takes for the lights to shut off depending on what scene is selected.

However here is the funny! I have also set it so I can just walk into the room - the PIR will detect me and if the lights off and its night time it will put scene 1 on for me :-)

The weird thing is though that if Comfort sends the Scene 1 command then even though it detects the RAKO unit sending it out it doesn\'t write it to the counter.

It\'s no big problem as
I can just write the counter manually to what I want but thought it would be nicer if I didn\'t have to have an extra 2 or 3 lines of code for every pair of commands.

So just wondered if it was supposed to do this or if it might be changed in next firmware upgrade?

Thanks again!

Stuart

Only incoming messages from a device are mapped to a counter
If you send a command to the device, and if it does not receive the command from Rako then there is no mapping. This is because the matching and mapping is only by received input

Interesting....The way Rako works is that...

Comfort will send a message to turn scene 1 on in a room the RAKO unit will get the message then broadcast the appropriate command.

I would have thought that then the UCM Universal would have also received the command as it detects the incoming message from RAKO but doesn\'t write the counter....

I wonder if its as the incoming message is received too quickly after the external message....

In that case the counter should be affected
Can you open Monitor I/O before trying this again
Copy to Clipboard and let is see what is the resuot
Any changes to counters should be seen in the CT reports

The reason why the counter is not updated when you send a command from Comfort is that Rako only sends an acknowledgement to the command that it receives

For example if you connect to the RAKO direct using the Rs232 port and using  hyperterminal and you send a command, it only replies OK, eg

>RO:4
OK
>CH:0
OK
>SC:1
OK

There is no message to the UCM which can update the counter

if you press scene using Rako RCP wall plate, the data UCM received is (such as)

<004:00:03                              Scene 1 button pressed.
This allows the counter to be updated

Of course the feed back is one of the major limitations of the RAKO system.

Have you tried their iPhone app - it is one of the best out of the box apps i have seen very little set up and good screen layout etc - works with iphone or ipad.

We use RAKO a lot with blinds control and comfort. I think that RAKO are working on some sort of RF feed back but this is next generation.

ummmm I am not sure how the iphone app would help here?

I dont understand why you think feedback is a major limitation - works perfectly for me.
