It's fixed!! Just had 10 straight attempts of logging on and back out with no issues by leaving comfort open in the background.
If you hard close it (the dbl click thing) you need to reselect your comfort system using the key (even though it shows on the opening screen you have to reselect it)
1 - go to settings, general, reset then reset network settings.
2 - reset up your wireless network
3 - open up comfort and reset up your comfort alarm (this bit might be overkill but better safe than sorry I reckon).Last edited on Wednesday Oct 26th, 2011 07:41 am by schford

what does" Reset Network settings" do
It says reset to factory defaults but will it make you lost connections?

It completely wipes out all stored information for any networks you have setup. So you will have to set them all back up (wireless only does not affect your 3g).
I have a theory that something gets corrupted when an upgrade from ios 4 to io5 happens and this resets it to the default ios 5 settings.

But I had no real problems with wireless.
My problem was with the initial connection to 3G.
So before I go through this, can you swicth off wireless and tell me if your 3G connection works after doing this, without a "data error".
I am suspicious because you should not have to reselect the system after restarting the completeley closed app.Last edited on Wednesday Oct 26th, 2011 08:27 am by gaynorc

Just to clarify my request, could you completely close down the app, then close wifi, and then start the app and try to connectthrough 3G.
Completely closing the app is important because I have found that if I start the app in a wifi area, and move into 3G, then the app works okay. Its only if I start it up in 3G that the data errors happen and I cannot connect.

Okay I tried this fix.
No change, still the problem.
This is what is happening:
1. In 3G, I open the app.
2. DS Manager reports the connection is established (see screen print)
3. Comfort app does not accept that I am connected to a system, and forces me to press "key" and select "system"
4. Comfort then tries to connect to an already established connection and throws a "data error".
5. If I wait for timeout, and ETH02 drops the connection, then I can connect okay.
I repeat the following observation which must be at the core of this problem. The main difference between our iOS 4 and iOS 5 phones is that the app does not, with iOS 5, remember the last system when it is started up from the "completely closed" state.
i.e.:
When the iOS4 phones completely close down the app, and then restart the app, the last connection is remembered and immediately the phone restores the "connected" status. No selection of the system involved is required.
When the iOS5 phones completely close down the app, and then restart the app, the connection is not remembered. When the system is immediately reselected in 3G, the "data error" happens.Attachment: DS Status.jpg (Downloaded 45 times)

I need to nail down the issues.
When you say not remembered ->
1) You mean that the connection says "please select a connection" and it does not reconnect?
2) The name of the connection is displayed but you get data error or not connected?
Everybody else seems to be on (2)......

Like others, I have reaction like your number (2).
The detail:
1. I open the app
2. Beside the key symbol, the name of the system appears. Above it "Not Connected".
3. If I try to enter password and send, it "chirps" at me.
4. I press the key symbol, select the system, press done, app returns to home screen, "data error" appears.
Variation on above:
1. I open the app
2. Beside the key symbol, the name of the system appears. Above it "Not Connected".
3. I wait with the home screen and do nothing.
4. After about a minute USUALLY (not always) an error dialogue appears. "Error we had a connection error - please reconnect". (I have DS manager set the connection timeout to 1 minute)
5. I dismiss the error, press key symbol, select the system, press done, app returns to home screen, "connected".Last edited on Wednesday Oct 26th, 2011 01:34 pm by gaynorc

We have spent quite a lot of time tracking this down and it seems to come down to changes in the way IOS 5 is firing events.
What is puzzling is that we really don't see why Wireless should be OK and not 3G unless it is something to do with time to connect (which could be faster over wireless) also messing with the load order.
We are currently testing a fix which we will release as we are sure it is stable.

Thanks Calistra and Cytech, I appreciate your work.
This app, connected to Comfort, is one of the most useful apps I have.

Looking good. Installed on one iphone and works first time on both 3G and WiFi with no issues. Will try other iphones in next couple of days.
Thanks again to all for the responsive and rapid turnaround on this issue.
