Hi

I recently had to reload Windows Vista on my PC.

When I try to connect from the PC to Serial UCM, I get the following message :

Failed to write to UCM

I am using Config 3.0.1.0 (have the same problem with previous versions)

I have a third party device connecting to the UCM with no problems.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

You have the same problem with previous Comfigurator versions, does it include Comfigurator version 2.2.3?

Mind to tell us more on how do you determine that the third party device can work with the UCM?

What are the UCM and Comfort firmware versions?

Yes

Cause I can send commands to Comfort from Control4 and it responds, eg Security Off, Arm etc

What are the UCM and Comfort firmware versions?

Comfort Ultra II  Ucm Version5.92

Try setting No Hardware Control on Comfigurator and remove SW8-H on the UCM to disable Hardware Flow control

Perhaps the problem is due to the Windows Vista on your PC if you say that you have had to reload it.
Try the UCM on another PC with Comfigurator and see if it works there

Just a thought but is Comfigurator and the other application tests both using the same TCP port?  Could also explain why one works and one doesnt if they are different?

I just thought maybe that in reloading Vista that it might be something to do with the firewall on the PC and it is blocking some TCP ports? You could try temp disablig the firewall and see if that changes the symptoms.

Hi

Tried turning off firewall and still no joy.

Comfig acknowledges that COM1 exist and ask for a password but beyond that 'No response from UCM'. Does complain when I use COM3.

If I did a complete reinstall (new HD) would I need to install the drivers for the motherboard ?

I tried another computer using a USB to serial cable, same issues

Thanks

If you were able to connect a third party to the UCM, then the UCM musr be workjing. The problem may be related to your PC or IS

If you have tried connecting to another computer with a serial to USB cable check the COM port assigned as this may change whenever you plug it in Check the port using Control Panel > System > Hardware

Use Hyperterminal as described in the UCM Manual to try to connect and logiin

Check that the D9/D10 Leds are both blinking

Look at the D11/D12 red/green leds
When you send from the PC, you should see the green led D12 blink so if it does not  the UCM is not receiving anything at all
When the UCM responds you should see D11 blink

Hi

I am coming back to you with this unresolved problem.

Since the last post, I have changed my PC and operating system from Vista to XP Pro.

I have a third party system that talks to Comfort on a daily basis. I can talk to the UCM from HyterTerminal with no issues.

I have tried the lastest Comfig and even downgraded to Version 2.23. I still cannot get any response using any of these versions of Comfig !!

When I send a command from HT or Control4, the D11 green led flashes and the command is executed. No activity on D12 (red)

Please help

You say the command from Hyperterminal works. But do you get a reply on Hypertermiinal to the command?

Hi,

The serial command does get executed thou. eg turn on the sprinkler

Thanks

If you do not see any reply it may mean that the data is not coming back from the UCM but the UCM is receiving data from the PC. This could be why the external device is able to send comnmands to the UCM
Comfigurator needs to have a reply in order to work
There may be a fault or bad connection within the UCM05
Please return it to your supplier for exchange if under warranty

HI

I received a UCM5 Ethernet from my distributor as a replacement for the serial Ucm.

I am told that it can be used as a serial as well.

What do I need to set/configure on the UCM to act as a serial UCM ?

Also, will I still need the Tibbo DS Manager Software as well ?

Thanks

Please download the UCM Manual to get instructions on the UCM/Ethernet and the other varieties of UCM

If the UCM has a DB9 connector, you can use it by changing the following shunts
  • J2 should be in the 485 position (NOT 232)
  • SW8-F shunt should be removed

Hi

The UCM supplied does not have a DB9 connecter, only ethernet.

I can connect via ethernet to Comfort but I need a serial connection to the third party console. Currently I am using (with the old serial UCM) an ethernet cable with RJ45 and a Ethernet Dual Serial Bridge DB9 to RJ-45 RS-232 Adapter   http://www.blackbox.com/Store/Detail.aspx/Ethernet-Dual-Serial-Bridge-DB9-to-RJ-45-RS-232-Adapter/LA126

Is it possible to use the UCM05 ethernet module with this configuration for serial

Thanks

It is difficult to comment on third party converters. You really have to test to see if they will work with the UCM/Ethernet

So the UCM/Ethernet is working with Comfort now?
