Comfigurator 3 ("CF3")is a landmark improvement compared to the previous Comfigurator 2 ("CF2") in terms of ease of use, features and speed.

When should installers make the change?

We recommend that Comfigurator 3 be used for all new installs.

For installed systems that have been completed, obviously there is no reason to change the software

For ongoing projects, which have been substantially completed with CF2, then it may be easier to stick to CF2

If there is new work or addition of modules to exiting systems then thatmay be a more difficult decision

Converting a file from CF2 to CF3 as just  a metter of opening the .ccl file and saving as a .cclx file

If you have to Read the existing configuration from a Comfort that has been programmed with CF2 (because the original ccl file is not available, you may encounter exceptions when using CF3 due to certain incompatibilities.  If so then use CF2 to Read the system (Comfort > PC) and continue from there.

Another reason to stick  to Cf2 is if a UCM/EIB (as opposed to the new UCM/KNX ) is installed in the system. There is a difference in the format used in UCM/EIB and UCM/KNX to send telegrams to the KNX bus (Action 197). CF3 is suposed to detect which type of UCM is installed but this may not be foolproof. hence stick to CF2 in such cases. Nevertheless CF2 and CF3 can co-exist in the same computer (and both should be installed) so there is no problem with switching between CF2 and CF3 even in the same Comfort.

If a UCM/KNX is used in the system then CF3 MUST be used

Comments and tales from the field are welcome

Comfigrator 3 is not compatible with Comfort 1 when using UCM/USB or UCM/ETH03

Comfigurator 3 may be used with Comfort  via the old UCM01 with serial interface

If you have UCM/USB or UCM/ETH then you need to use Comfigurator 2
