So here's a challenge Cytech.

What about developing an interface for the arm processor based raspberry pi board. It runs LINUX so it would run a webserver hosting the comfort web server software and be mounted inside the comfort panel and the thing is tiny and costs just a few tens of pounds to buy.

The Raspberry Pi http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raspberry_Pi

Maybe it is a challenge for a Comfort user or developer. It is interesting but we have too many projects to do

What a cracking idea, here's hoping someone has the knowledge to do it! To avoid a dedicated interface I'm guessing it could communicate to a Comfort UCM via USB or ethernet?

Yes great idea and this is needed. Low cost small footprint and eventually able to generate a web interface on the fly from the configuration. Comfort III at least. The CWM was too expensive and bulky.

Is there a funding model that can be worked out? Might Cytech be able to do just the RS485 physical stuff (daughterboard)?

Think there might be a couple of polls required here?

I have purchased my RPi as I was interested in developing something exactly along these lines.
Please note that I am a beginner at this, but I am keen to lean.

I am needing to start at the beginning so would appreciate any basic background connectivity information necessary.
I will of course be searching through the forums to gather what I can to get me going.

The Comfort Protocol gives the format of all the commands that can be used to control Comfort. It also shows all the reports from Comfort when anything changes. This allows any external device to control and monitor Comfort
One of the serial ports of the Raspberry can be connected to a UCM to talk to Comfort
Let is know if you need other information
