Hi,
Is it possible to send a custom SMS (just a string of text) using the UCM GSM? I would imagine something similar to the SendRS232 command?
Thanks,
Clinton.

No, the UCM/GSM sends Alarm Type and Zone type or ID only
You can get it to send any two 16 character string by programming the text in Alarm Type and zone type

It would be nice if we could use "(" and ")" in Alarm type and Zone type.
Assume we have small mechanical rooms in different places of a city and we want to have the statuses of pumps, boilers, alarms... etc. for each mech room we have a comfort panel with UCM/GSM witch sends SMS commands to a main panel ,that controls a mimic panel, the mimic panel is being monitored and there is no need to site check mech rooms.
this can be used for small mechanical rooms that using a Webserver is not economical.
the problem is that we cannot use "(" and ")". How can we do that?

Currently zone names must start with a letter and can contain only alphabetic characters and - or _
We will see if this can be expanded to include more characters

Did you know that in the Modules Tab > GSM UCM you can enter 16 characters in the field Alphanumeric ID which is displayed at the front of the SMS to indicate the location
This can have ( and )

Looking at this I immediately thought of a 'New Message' notification via the UCM/GSM.
Would it be possible to include this as a new feature at some stage? It would be nice to get a SMS notification that somebody left you a message.
I don't know how the different mailboxes and users will be handled as well as which phone number will be used for the SMS destination but that is the fun part of development.

The new message SMS notifdication is already possible.
In Security Type Settings > Alarm Types, go to New Message Alarm Type 29, check Dial out and all the 8 dial indexes
In Telecoms > Answering, Mailbox Phone assignments, each user (mailbox) can assign a phone index 1 to 8.
When a new message is recorded for one of the 1st 8 users the assigned phone will be called. If the phone is set to SMS phone type, then an SMS wil be sent to the programmed phone number in the format
"(SMS ID)- 29-New Message - User NN"
If the assigned phone is a Voice Phone, the user can sign in and directly listen to the message
Too bad we will have to mniss the "fun of development"

How did I miss this one???? This is exactly the feature I was looking for. It seems I have to reread the documentation from scratch.
