I know that with the GSM UCM you are able to send a text message!
Im sure that other products are able to create and send messages in a simpler cheaper way.
Ideally if this can be done that probably 50% of our dialouts would be redundant as customers now find the voice menus very confusing.

The function of the UCM/GSM is not just to send text messages;
- Act as a backup for the landline so that Comfort can dial to the 8 programmed phones when the landline is down. In many new homes, a phone line is not even installed so the case of the UCM/GSM becomes greater
- Allows users to call back to control Comfort using the GSM Number
- Allows users to send text messages to Comfort to control their home
- sends text messages in the event of alarms
There may be cheaper solutions but I doubt that they are able to offer the above advantages

I am aware of the advantages of the GSM module. You miss the point.
The GSM module costs money to buy set up and maintain.
If all someone is aftr is a simple text message when the alarm activates etc this is a vary expensive option.
I have found that over the years the installations we carry out are increasingly more for the general public rather than anybody that is 'techy'. The point being that Joe public finds the dial out difficult at best. They dont use the dial in facility every day so when they receive a call invariably they dont *1234# so the alarm will call them again, and again etc (our default file has the dial outs set to 1). Having a text message sent is a far better option.
So what i am suggesting is that someone looks into the possibility of the main comfort unit beig able to send a simple text message at no extra cost (apart from the programming)!

I find it useful for controlling shutters and thermostat via a simple text message.
I can also send a text message to open the external door (for some personal reasons) when away, without have to call and sign-in by voice.
I have programmed the option to ARM AWAY the security system when anyone is in the premise for at least 2 hours.
When Comfort switches to ARM AWAY, it sends me an SMS.
I find it very useful, especially when the land line is broken, because Comfort uses GSM for calling, when phone line has trouble.
I've saved all numeric commands with descriptions, in some pre-defined SMS in my cell phone, so i don't have to remember the control menu sequence every time.

When sending SMS from cell to Comfort, there is no need to sign-in.
When dialling-in to Comfort by voice, the sign-in process is not a problem, it's a security feature.
Or maybe i haven't understood your question..

Only mobile phones which are programmed into one of Comfort's 8 telephone numbers are allowed to send text message commands to Comfort, messages from other phones are rejected.

When you receive a call from Comfort you do not have to sign in eg 1234#.
You just need to press # to acknowledge the call. The system will not call you again, but will call the next number programmed for that alarm
I dont think that is too difficult for the general public.

Many landlines support SMS sending is that something that could implemented?
SMS receiving is probably not pratical as certainly here in the UK text messages are converted to text and sent as a voicemail.
