The FPR01 Fingerprint Reader is now available for Comfort. It works with the UCM/ACCESS to communicate with Comfort.
This is suitable for homes and small offices, which is the main market for the Comfort system. Each of 16 users can register several fingerprints for recognition when the user is authenticated. Besides opening the electronic lock, the system can activate Scenes depending on the validated user. For example, for office staff, the office lights and air-conditioners can be turned on and the security system can be disarmed. For the cleaner, the door is unlocked and system is disarmed only at certain times. A valid fingerprint can also arm the security system and switch off all lights, air-conditioners and appliances within the home and office. Comfort can dial to programmed telephone numbers (or send SMS using the UCM/GSM Module) when the security system is armed or disarmed.
The interface between the fingerprint reader and the Comfort controller is by RS232 or RS485 serial interface, requiring only a data cable for connection. Comfort monitors the communication to trigger an alert or alarm if the cable is cut or the fingerprint reader is tampered with.
The FPR01 module will be made available initially in Asia through Cytech Distributors and should be introduced to Europe at the end of 2006.
Comfort is also able to interface with the Axeze RFID Access Control System (http://www.axeze.com.au/)

Not yet, Cytech Europe will establish the prices after they arrange to bring the first set in. This is still waiting for RoHs compliance which should be soon

Note that unfortunately the Axeze mentioned above looks unlikely to be RoHs compliant for the foreseeable future.

OH
How does it recognise finger prints I assume you have to teach it? I can you download from national registry!
Is it a stand alone device or can you power it of comfort bus?

Thanks for the review.
The Comfigurator bug is known and wil be fixed in the next release together with other things
You suggested an IP rated unit for outdoors, but access control readers are generally not meant for outdoors. As long as there is shelter there should be sufficient protection
If someone tries to remove it or damage it, loss of communications (not Rs485 communications, but communications between the UCM and the reader electronics) is detected as a Tamper
You can also register fingers as duress
We did consider recording finger reads but in an office environment we were concerned that there would be too many of them causing alarm information to be lost

I am afraid the reader manufacturer has not given us any information when it will be RoHs compliant yet.
