Hi,

One of those stupid things, apologies. I am looking to connect the ucm to the main pcb. The UCM manual says to connect using the 4 pin IDT conector from the ucm board (jp2 or jp2a) to the 4 pin idt connection on the main pcb (j15). I cant find j15!!! The only 4 pin idt connetor on the main pcb is J7, which is the rs84 connection. JUst want to confirm if this is the correct point, or am I missing something stupid (likely!)

THanks,
Eamon

J15 is the connector for old comfort I.
Yes, the correct point for comfort II is J7 (RS485).
Will have the manual updated ASAP, apology for the confusion caused.

Thanks Hendy,

Thought I was missing something obvious, the lead with the IDC connectors is quite long also, so was thinking it was somewhere else on the board I could'nt find. I might cut it a bit shorter to keep things neat.

Just playing with comfigurator now so making some progress :-). My own older comofrt v1 did not have it, it certainly makes things easier.

Regards,

Eamon

Hi,

Just powering upn comfort, and trying to get it set up on the network. Couple of additional queries if possible.

Firstly, my pc does not have a seriel port, so I am assuming that I can get connected to Comfort/UCM first time using ethernet, and I dont have to connect directly using the serial cable ?

Secondly, having connected the UCM/ETH to comfort, I understand I should get leds' d9 and d10 flashing continously. Currently, both leds are dead, so it looks like the UCM is not talking to comfort. I have only 1 UCM, the hw adress is set to 1 on the ucm (sw7 a,b and c are shorted), and sw8 is all open except for F which is short. KA,KB and power are connected to the main board using the 4 pin IDC lead.

The RDY led is on constant,

On a side note, does anyone know if the Device server Manager Software is Vista compatable ? I think its not, so having a prob here also.

Hope this makes sense. My first prob is getting d9 and d10 to flash, and why this is not happening, then to figure out connectivity via the ethernet to comfigurator (assuming I dont have to use the serial port to start off).

Any help/advice appreciated.

Thanks

Eamon

You can use a USB to serial convertor to connect the UCM05 to a PC without a serial port
If you have a UCM/Ethenet, make sure the J2 shunt is at the "485" position, not "232" as this will affect the communications with the serial port or Ethenet

D10 (green) should be blinking whenever there is any communication from  Comfort to any ID, regardless of what the ID shunts are. D9 (red) is the reply from the UCM when it is polled. Hence if D10 is not blinking there is a physical connection problem, perhaps in the cable, or Comfort is not communicating on the RS485 bus. First check that D10 is really off, because the green led is not bright. Dont mix it up with D12 which is communications with the serial/Ethernet port
Is comfort working with the keypad at all?
Do a reset on Comfort and see if the D10 does blink at the start after reset

Thanks,

Question is, do I have to connect firstly with serial, or can I just go ethernet ? Would be easier to go ethernet rather than having to get a converter.

The J2 shunt is in the 485 position, as it was when I received it. The green led, D10 does not light up at all on power up. The cable between the ucm and comfort is the supplied 4 pin IDT cable, so cant really be faulty, its very short, and connectors look good. Also, I undersand the power for the UCM is over this lead, and the unit is powering up.

Looking at the troublshooting manual (seems to be for an older rev board), but refers to leds (red and green) on the main comfort PCB.  D1 and D2 on the main comfort pcb are not lighting at all.

Regards,

Eamon

Yes, you can connect the UCM/Ethernet RJ45 connector directly to your PC's ethernet port using supplied RJ45 cable.

D1 and D2 on the main comfort pcb are not lighting at all.
This means that there's something wrong with the main board firmware. Try downloading the new firmware.
Is your main board firmware version ULTRA II? It's written on the label of U1 IC, is it ULT 5.xxx? xxx is 3-digit number. If it is ULTRA II version, you can get the new firmware file from our website http://www.cytech.biz > product > product info > software > Ultra II firmware. The procedures on how to download the firmware can be found in the UCM manual page 46.

Thought I'd just update, the prob is fixed now, I think it was a faulty board. I have everything up and running, in so far as functionality is concerned now, except for the SCS's w hich I hav'nt got round to now.

With regards getting the UCM up and running and connected. As I mentioned I have vista on my machine, the Device server manager software was not compatable, but I got a vista compatible version thanks to cytech helpline.

Thanks everyone

Eamon
