Hello

I've had my Comfort system for 5 years now and apart from one rogue X10 light have been very happy.

About six months ago, I experienced a 'Phone Trouble' error. I am not sure what caused it but an led on the Keypad flashes and when I sign in to the system I get a 'Phone Trouble' audible warning.

Comfort still works fine as a voice mail system and I can sign in remotely so it sems as though the phone is working ok? I have tried a reset which did not change things.

It is not causing - as far as I can see - any problems, but it is very annoying!

Any ideas?

Many thanks,
Paul Wilson
Melbourne, Australia

Does the phone trouble message only occur when you are using your phone?

Are you able to sign in on your local phone, ie press * code and #

If the answer to the 1st question is yes and to the 2nd question is No, then the problem may be caused by partial damage to the telephone line (by lightning). This causes the offhook detection not to work

However changing the polarity of the telephone line incoming to Comfort (ie swap the two wires around for the wires coming into TEL IN) may fix the problem. However be very careful when handling this telephone wire. You should get an electrician to do this as sometimes this may carry high voltage

Hi

Many thanks for the speedy reply.

I get the phone trouble message when I try to use my phone or when I sign in using the keypad (eg, to retrieve voice mail).

And yes, I am able to sign in using the phone. That works ok.

Hmmm.

Thanks again, Paul :-)

What I meant was - does the phone trouble ever restore when the phone is not used, ie does the phone trouble ONLY happen and keypad starts beeping when you are receiving a call or making a call. When the phone call ends and you sign in on the keypad, does it say "Phone Trouble Restore"?

Is Comfort able to dial out.Try doing a dial test F3,3. If it is a permanent

Thanks again.

No, the problem never restores. When i try a dial test I get a 'Please Hang Up' message.

Seems like Comfort thinks the phone is always off hook?

Regards, Paul

It looks like the telephone circuit has been damaged probably by lightning activity
As it is not able to dial out, you should send it for repair as soon as possible

Actually, I think you would have to exit from the keypad to exit. Press F on the keypad and exit the keypad menu and see if the dial out works.

Nope, nothing either. I give up. This thing is clearly stuffed.

Hello Pual.

I am the Australian distributor for Comfort. You may recall I visited your home with Rod Stephens about 2 or more years ago and helped sort out the issues you had.   It sounds like Comfort has been working fine since then, until the recent phone trouble message.   Rod tells me today that you have not contacted him since this time.  There are several well skilled integrators of Comfort in Melbourne, who would do a service call for you.  If you would like to contact me, I can assist you with their contact details.  (03) 9598 4256.

Regards Ian Clarke

Hi

Chiu, sorry that your forum has been drawn into this one. As I said, I actually like the Comfort product and was just looking for some help which you were kindly providing. Thanks!

As a moderated forum I expect that if there were any 'concerning' posts you would advise the author and remove them. As this did not occur I took the step of personally withdrawing the post myself immediately upon being advised that a reader felt it problematic.

Also thanks to Ian Clarke for offering to put me in touch with some current integrators here in Melbourne. Clearly none of the problems related to the great programming work done by Ian at iqhome.

In fact, none of the problems are anyone's 'fault' - they just happened! But, as with anything, we can all get frustrated when things don't work! It's not due to anyone doing anything (clearly - as the system has been operating to spec for a while), but it is frustrating nonetheless.

Once again, apologies to any who did not agree with my post.

Have a great weekend!

Paul

PS - so you think my phone line may be damaged in some way?

To address any concerns:

Rod completed the work to my satisfaction and the recent problems arose well after the work done by Rod and Ian.

Apologies to any parties here.

Paul

Hi Abdul Basit
Welcome to the forum. You say you are a new user. Do you have a Comfort system? If not I suggest you view the first 3 topic on FAQS Users forum http://www.comfortforums.com/forum17/
They tell you how to get started and what is required. It depends on whether you are an end user or installer
You should also post a new topic instead of replying to this old Phone Trouble Topic which is now closed. Please post a new topic elsewhere  like "Questions on Using Comfort" http://www.comfortforums.com/forum1/

If you are a new installer and wish to know how to buy Comfort please send an email to sales@cytech.biz

Best regards
Chiu
