If we have set up remote IP access is it possible for Comfort to send out a regular fault report.
I'm thinking of other equipment that we install such as NAS drives and Service switches etc where by we get a daily (or weekly depending upon how we set it up) basic fault report.
Such a set up would STUPIDte the idea of a service contract as we could provide a minimal charge for the basic monitoring.

It is possible to send a report to an IP address
But what faults are you thinking of sending?
Comfort has no Faults, only installers have faults

Coule perhaps this be used for sending alarm reports, for example push notifications when an alarm is activated etc ?
This would be a fantastic feature to add to comfort. My own set up for example, I have no landline, I have broadband provided via a fixed wireless solution, and I dont wish to pay for a gsm top up solution using gsm dialer.
As I have an ethernet connection via the ethernet ucm, then it would seem to make sense to use this as the route to report alarms etc rather than having to have a seperate device (landline or gsm) which requre an adidtional subscription (landline rental or gsm rental/topup).
Regards,

Our business is heading towards remote monitoring
We do it all the time for SKY boxes so we can remotely switch off and on the power when the SKY box locks up.
We get regular reports for all the remote devices we set up
So if its CCTV we get a weekly report on the drive useage
I suggest for comfort
Weekly report check - may be we do
- battery check
- fault log
- useage log!
Then as wexford says an instant report
- power down
- tel down !
- comms failure
- alarm
Etc etc etc
Can you advise on the code needed to set this up and ill have a go

The business advantage of this is that we can sell the service - it will mean that existing Comfort units are bought up to date with ethernet UCM (I would say that 85% + of the comfort installations that we have on our books don't have an Ethernet UCM).
The service would form the basis of a low cost service agreement.

Why not add to the weekly report a Firmware section. Report on what the user has and if an update is available then you could offer it to the user to upgrade all his devices.
Some vendors have a 'Call-Home' feature. Perhaps Comfort could have something similar.

When is the email capability likely to be available?
Would this be a dedicated UCM ?

OK
So are yo intending to have
UCM ETH
and
UCM ETH Email
Or are we talking about just ONE single Ethernet UCM that can send e-mails as well !

So I'm still confused. Does this need new hardware then or is it going to be a firmware update ?

It should be another ethernet plug in to replace the ETH02

Is the plan to have it just for email, or would some form of push notification also be available for iPhone android app?

Just the email sending function will be supported by the new module
If you mean Notifications for the iphone and android apps, not at the moment, that is more complex and is a function of the app, not the Ethernet interface

In theory would it be possible to add that functionality to the app afterwards or would it be something you would look at?
With email, I just find that you will tend to miss notification as you don't immediately address and email when it comes in, as it is a regular occurrence, whereas with am alarm notification you would react to .
Just not sure if email notification is a full solution for something like security?

What else is new about this "eth/3" module; it must be because of more than just email. Newer/faster chipset, more memory?

Yep, email is fire and forget, so of it doesn't get read, no follow up.
In an ideal world, if I was developing a new bit of hw or feature, I would link it to some sort of app or server where you had a watchdog alarm and then also your normal security alarms etc.
You would not be able to have a watchdog reporting from comfort direct to the phone app as loss of coverage or service would cause the watchdog to activate, but if you were to have it report to a cytech server which the ap checked in on when it was in coverage.
Might even be able to do something like that with email from comfort to a server.
Maybe I'm waffling again though, sorryLast edited on Saturday Aug 24th, 2013 11:07 am by wexfordman
