The alphaWerks Universal Home Automation Interface (UHAI) is an interface between SmartThings and third party 'Internet of Things' IoT devices.

The interface is planned to be produced in two variants.

1. Community Edition.

This version is aimed to be used by Cytech Comfort system owners and users who are interested in integrating it with external IoT devices and have reasonable knowledge of programming the Comfort system. This version requires a Raspberry Pi to be connected to a UCM via Ethernet and will interact with supported devices on the local network. As this solution is dependent on user knowledge and configuration, external devices (such as the network, connectivity to the internet and external power) and community support, it is not intended to be as robust or reliable as the core Comfort system. It is most suitable for hobbyist and end users who are prepared to to spend time configuring it and maintaining it.

It is provided via a disk image download, which can found on this forum under the releases topic, which need to be written to an SD card for use on the Raspberry Pi.

The community edition may not support all the device types available in the professional system due to commercial or licensing restrictions.

2. Professional Edition.

The professional system is currently in early stages of development in conjunction with Cytech Pte Ltd, and is aimed for all users, installed and system integrators. It is provided as a dedicated UCM which is powered and monitored by the Comfort system.  Connectivity to external third party devices is via Ethernet on the UCM.

The professional edition will have the broadest range of supported devices. Support will be available to users and installers, provided by both Cytech and alphaWerk.

The software will be provided pre-loaded on the UCM and will be configurable via a web interface.

Supported Devices

The Initial version of the community edition supports Samsung SmartThings. This integration instantiates Comfort inputs, outputs, flags, counters, Alarm mode and state and responses as SmartThings devices.

This allows SmartThings to receive events from and send commands to Comfort, which when used in conjunction with other SmartThings supported devices and SmartApps permits complex rules and actions to take place which can utilise the Comfort system.

Examples of such integrations are:
  • Amazon Echo integration via SmartThings allowing voice control over Comfort devices attached to outputs, counters or flags.
  • Use of proximity sensors and phone location to automatically arm the alarm when everyone has left the house and disarm on arrival.
  • Play the sound of dogs barking and turn on / off lights when external PIR's detect movement outside the house when the Alarm is armed.
  • Turn the heating up in little used rooms when movement is detected such as a guest bedroom or study.
