Hi all. I have a query regarding repurposing an older UCM I just found in my spares bin that I'd forgotten I had... :-)
Its PCB printing says: UCM PC01-066A with stickered firmware version 5.156, but when scanned with comfigurator it reported itself as version 6.012 so I obviously upgraded it previously. It's an RS232/F model, and happens to have an audio submodule fitted...
According to what I thought I knew, I believed I should be able to flash this UCM up to the latest revision via the bus connection, but it turns out I had to dig out a programming cable and upgrade the firmware "old-school style"... - that however has worked, and it now reports itself as type General, version 7.060
So, my question - having flashed the firmware up to the latest version, - is: can I purchase any of the newer submodules to plug on top of this to make it more useful? - I guess only UCM modules that use the general firmware would be applicable, which IIRC is USB & ETH03 isn't it? - what about zwave? - I actually have a hankering to experiment with zwave, so buying just the submodule rather than a whole UCM-Zwave would (I assume) lessen the cost of trying that technology...
But what about any of the other UCM types that have their own firmware? - is the baseboard hardware any different? (I've noticed that not all UCMs appear to have a U2 chip fitted, but this one does... and it also has an empty U3 socket and a jumper to choose between them)
In a nutshell, what are my options for fitting any of the newer submodules onto this baseboard?
Cheers

Hi
I had the same experience a while back with the same model which was one of the early flashable modules. Mine had a RS232/F socket soldered directly on the motherboard too.
So I found that the newer Eth3 cards wouldn't fit as they didn't have the cut-out that the ETh2 boards had to stop them fowling the RS232 socket.
So a soldering iron later and the RS232 socket unsoldered (you need a hot soldering iron and a solder extractor and a good supply of money for the swear box) the Eth3 fits puuuurfectly and running like a goodun!
I don't think you can repurpose as a ZWave though as the firmware stops you from cross-purposing.

You can plug in the ETH03, USB, RS232, RS485 submodules with this UCM05
Place the shunt for U2/U3 towards U2 as the U3 IC is not used with the new firmware
I believe there is another shunt marked 485/232.This should be shunted to the 485 side to elect the submodule on 10 way conncetor. The "232 " position selects the onboard RS232

Yep but I think the missing cutout/notch on the Eth3 that the Eth1 and 2 had will foul the RS232 board; hence why I had to unsolder that to be able to plug in.
