You will need another UCM to upgrade the UCM firmware
If you do not have another UCM, you can send yours to Cytech, we will upgrade it and just charge the transport cost

With UCM less than 5.178 if there is any error in the firmware upgrade process the module being upgraded will not work until the firmware is upgraded properly
With UCM 5.178 and above the UCM will be able to repeat the firmware upgrade even if there was an error
As you have two UCMs it may be worth the risk to upgrade the UCm to 5.200 and then swap the UCMs and use the upgraded UCM to upgrade the first one to 5.200
If there is an error, send the UCM to us for upgrading

Hello,
Am I able to send you a UCM Type 10, v5.092 for upgrade to a version gresater than 5.178, so that I can use it to upgrade the rest of my Comfort system, which is in day-to-day use?
Thanks,
Jon.

UCM01 5.92 is the Comfort I version of the UCM. You can buy a new type UCM at a discounted price if you return you old UCM. The firmware on 5.92 cannot be upgrade to 5.178 as the hardware is completely different
You say you want to upgrade the rest of your comfort system, but this is only possible if the system is Comfort II which allows firmware upgrade by UCM
Comfort I systems cannot be upgraded this way. See the Upgrade pakages for Comfort I to Comfort 2 at http://comfortforums.com/forum25/1403.html

Sorry for the delay in replying.
It seems I have a 'mixed' system. I am running Comfort II Ultra v5.54 and I have 2 UCMs - one old one (RS422) at v5.092 and a newer one (Ethernet) at v5.212
If I have understood all I have read correctly, if I want to get to position where I can use Comfigurator to upgrade the firmware on both Comfort and my newer UCM to current released versions (and keep up), then the best way of doing this for me would be:-
a) Upgrade my old UCM (not in current use) to a version gretaer than v5.212 - this would mean sending it back and purchasing a new UCM at a discount. (Query - Send it back to where? UK distributor, or Singapore?)
b) Purchase a MPU01-ULT upgrade to allow my Comfort firmware to be upgraded using a new enough UCM.
c) Use the new UCM achieved in step a) to upgrade my current (in-service) UCM to a version greater than v5.212
Then in future, I can use Comfigurator to upgrade my Comfort and UCM firmware (on both UCMs).
Can you confirm this is the best (and cheapest) way to get my system running current firmware releases?
Thanks,
Jon.Last edited on Wednesday Jan 18th, 2012 11:52 am by Jon798

You can ask your distributor whether they could do it for you and if any cost is incurred. You need a UCM to upgrade another UCM using the programming cable if their firmware is less than 6.000, see http://www.comfortforums.com/forum4/1782.html
Once the UCm firmware is 6.000 and above it can upgrade its own firmware without needing another UCM see http://www.comfortforums.com/forum4/2283.html
You may also ask on the forum for other users to help out. If you search through the forum there have been several users who had their UCms upgraded with the help of other members of the forum
Of course you could always send it to Cytech Singapore for a free upgrade except you would have to pay the cost of transport You should upgrade to UCM 6.xxx which allows firmware upgrade by Bus - vetry useful
The UCM01 v5.92 cannot be upgraded
b) Purchase a MPU01-ULT upgrade to allow my Comfort firmware to be upgraded using a new enough UCM.
Yes, after the MPU upgrade by plug in, you would be able to use UCM 6.xxx to upgrade Comfort and other module firnware by Bus in future
http://www.comfortforums.com/forum4/1216.html
c) Use the new UCM achieved in step a) to upgrade my current (in-service) UCM to a version greater than v5.212
I would say greater than v6.000 for reason mentioned
Then in future, I can use Comfigurator to upgrade my Comfort and UCM firmware (on both UCMs).
Correct
Can you confirm this is the best (and cheapest) way to get my system running current firmware releases?
Buy 1 MPU01 - ULT and try to find someone to help you upgrade the UCM/Ethernet to 6.xxx

Thanks for this.
I can't take the UCM/Ethernet out of service as it's used to link Comfort to my home automation and control all the lights in the house, so I need to either find someone helpful enough to lend me a UCM, or to return my UCM01 in order to receive a discount on a new UCM, as you indicated was possible in an earlier post.
Who do I contact to enquire about the costs of returning the UCM01 and the subsequent cost of a new UCM?
Or is there anyone in the UK who might be willing to lend (or hire) me a UCM for a day?
Thanks,
Jon.

The UK is a biggish place, a bit more precise location would be helpful to see if anyone is in your area.

Fair point - to be honest I hadn't expected much luck on the borrow/hire front...
I am just outside Wokingham which is near to Reading.
Cheers,
Jon.
