As i understod, you can do flash upgrade, but you need:
New "hardware" firmware with flash update capabilities MPU01-ULT
New UCM05 (instead of UCM01), with flash update capabilities.
You need to phisically remove your old firmware, then insert the new MPU01.
You need to remove your UCM01 and replace it with the new UCM05.
Then, by attaching a small cable to MPU01 and UCM05, you can flash update your Comfort to all new released firmware, now and in the future.
Cytech web site has all documentation you need to do this.
Hope this help.
Bye.

Correct, except that you may not need to "remove" your old firmware.
Comfort II firmware is normally soldered on the PCB and cannot be removed.
If an MPU plug in firmware module is already installed to replace the on board firmware, then you need to remove that and replace it with the new flash MPU

Thanks for that. However on this forum it is stated that:
"Comfort II's CPU is now based on Flash technology from firmware 5.001
onwards. This means that new firmware can be downloaded by Comfigurator
(Version 2.2.1) via the UCM05, which is the new Flash-based replacement for the UCM01"
So if I have UCM05 - I can upgrade or I still need another part?

I understand you were asking why your board did not come with the Flash firmware.
We always ship the latest released firmware at the time of the order. At the time that your integrator ordered the system, 5.079 was the current version, and the Flash firmware module was not available yet for another month, so 5.079 was the firmware shipped in July.
regards
